April 3, 2016

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

April 1st sure was an active day at Quashnet School! Our day began with a Florida theme to honor Mr. Palmer, our hero of the day! Great job decorating, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Wonder. Then we went right into second term recognition awards where students were acknowledged for Perfect Attendance, Effort, and the Falcon Award.  Next, it was the QS vs KCC basketball game. There are a lot of fabulous pictures - be sure to check them out on the picture tab above.

Recognition awards for the first and second terms are given to students during grade level lunch periods.  The end of the year awards will be awarded to students during the school day in the gymnasium. It is a great time to come celebrate your child(ren)'s academic and personal achievements.  Not to worry, the date will be sent out well in advance so you can plan accordingly.

The Falcon Award, formerly known as the Good Egg Award, is given to one student in each grade level.  Peers or staff can nominate individual students for this award to recognize those students who demonstrate the Falcon Five ALWAYS!  They are great friends, show effort in all they do, and contribute to a positive culture here at Quashnet.  Congratulations to this term's winners, Adelaide Jones, Kylie Farhadi, Karen Mayen, and Nevaeh Ellis pictured here with other amazing students who took time to recognize their friends. Thank you PTO for sponsoring this award.

We are very proud of all of our outstanding students for their efforts to be in school everyday, and of course their academic achievement.  Quashnet School is a Growth Mindset school.  "Smart" is what you work for,  it is with effort you achieve.  Keep working hard everyone.  We still have a whole term ahead of us!

It was with a heavy heart last Friday that we wished our Mr. Palmer a fond farewell. He and his family will be relocating to sunny Florida. Mr. Palmer has been a recess monitor at Quashnet School for many years. During that time, Mr. Palmer has modeled respect, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Mr. Palmer ruled the kickball field with fairness and through teamwork, which can be a challenging task! Quashnet School proudly followed Mr. Palmer's Olympic journey on the USA Curling Team - he has inspired us all in so many ways. Mr. Palmer truly exemplifies that  EFFORT AND ATTITUDE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!  We will miss you, Mr. Palmer!

Talk about March Madness - U Quash stole the show! It is so amazing to see our MPS community   come together for such an outstanding, positive, family fun event like the Quashnet vs KCC basketball game. The gym was packed, the flash mob did a remarkable job, and our players put it all out there. Even the Mashpee High School cheerleaders came out to support the teams! Thank you Miss Sherman for leading the jazz band to liven up the night.  How about the National Anthem? What a beautiful job by our talented sixth graders - thank you, thank you, thank you to a fabulous PTO board, community, players, students,  Mrs. Bradbury, our referee from Mashpee Recreation, and all who contributed.  We will be ready for next year!

Don't miss this Thursday night.  The annual QUASHNET SCHOOL TALENT SHOW will be at MMHS starting at 6:00 PM.  Student performers have been practicing to perfect their skills - it is sure to be another night to remember.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Just a few reminders-  Annual Floor Hockey game Monday, April 4, it is also an early release day.
Please wear your BLUE to show your Falcon spirit and for National Autism Awareness Day.

Wishing you all productive week ahead!
Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
