March 13, 2016

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

Today is really flying bye!  I think I lost a whole hour! ;)  Daylight savings is here. Please be sure your alarm clocks are set for the morning - it will feel like an early start. It is also a great time to change the batteries in fire/smoke detectors - a great reminder from our firefighters. I welcome the longer and warmer days. With this bright sunny weekend it truly feels like spring is here!

There are many opportunities for family events coming up this week.  I sincerely hope you will be able to participate.

WEAR GREEN!

CONGRATULATIONS to the AMAZING STUDENTS at Quashnet School!  Pennies for Patients, a campaign to raise funds for leukemia, has raised a total of $3,020.78.    The goal was to raise at least $500. There was only a $10.39 difference between the top raising classroom, Ms. Forsberg $ 264.70 and the second place classroom, Mrs. Stroshine $254.31. Our third place classroom,  Mr. Loyko, came in at $219.39.  Thank you K-Kids for leading this effort!

What a beautiful day in Boston on Saturday listening to the 2016 All-State Treble Chorus Concert. Quashnet School was well represented by Miss Sherman and 8 students who qualified for the event.  Well done, Isabella Eagan, Maria MacDonald, Grace Sherman, Karen Mayen, Sarah Landry, Charlie Jenkins, and Maya Brainson. Caitlin Signs qualified by was unable to attend. What a terrific group of singing scholars!

I would like to acknowledge WB Mason for visiting Quashnet School this week.  They brought free samples and shared new products with our teachers. Also pictured is a group of teachers sharing practices with the staff during our early release day on March 7th. Please know, that early release days provide critical time for the staff to collaborate on instruction and curriculum.  We value the time together to improve our practice.

Have  you heard about the big BASKETBALL GAME on April 1st?  It is going to be great to see QUASHNET SCHOOL beat KCC during this friendly PTO sponsored event!! Mark you calendars to come support and help celebrate our victory! Go Quash!!

Have a wonderful and productive week ahead. I look forward to seeing you at one or more of the upcoming events!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
