Greetings Quashnet School Community,

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful Labor Day weekend!  This was an unusual start to school coming before the holiday weekend, but it is nice to have the first-day jitters behind us!  It was wonderful to see the students last week - our school has come to life.  Everyone was eager to be back and meet their teachers and new classmates.  Third graders were especially excited to know which locker belonged to them!

Arrival and dismissal went very smoothly.  Thank you, parents, for pulling up as far as possible in the drop-off area in the morning to allow numerous cars to unload at once.    The first week of school often presents some glitches with buses, but by all accounts it went very smoothly.  I would expect over the next week the consistency with arrival times and drop-offs to improve. As always, if there are any concerns please let us know.

Beginning in third grade, public school students in Massachusetts participate in either MCAS or PARCC testing. The addition of PARCC has been an adjustment for all.  I have included a link that provides a road map regarding this shift.  You may find it helpful if you are looking for your child's results. Thank you, Superintendent Hyde, for sharing the most up to date information from the state. http://www.doe.mass.edu/parcc/TestDrive-2yr.pdf .

If you have a chance after school one day, be sure to stop and see the new Exersite that was installed this weekend in the playground area off of the gym.  With the help of Amy Rullo, and the former PTO board, funds raised from the Color Run were used to purchase this new exercise equipment. The Barnstable County Sherriff's Department installed it, and DPW will take care of the final phase of laying wood chips on Tuesday.  If children or adults are interested in a cardiovascular workout - this is the place to be!

Please mark your calendar for the upcoming dates.  Thursday, September 17th is Open House at Quashnet from 6:00-7:30 PM.  There is a welcome back PTO sponsored barbeque scheduled for Friday, September 18, 5:00-7:00 PM for both KCC and QS families in the field between the schools. More detailed information will follow from PTO.  Last but not least, this Thursday, September 10th, is opening day for the New England Patriots - students are encouraged to show their Patriot Pride with team gear or colors!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
