It’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years--Abraham Lincoln

GROWTH MINDSET: WITH TIME AND EFFORT I CAN IMPROVE!
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.  Never stop challenging yourself.

I need to be seen.  I need to be heard.  I need to be respected.  I need to be safe.  I need to belong.  When all of my basic needs are met. . . then. . . I’m ready to learn.             (Anonymous)

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  QUASHNET SCHOOL/PTO ANNUAL CRAFT FAIR
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2014--ALWAYS AN OUTSTANDING EVENT!!

REMINDER:  PLEASE CHOOSE A PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE APPOINTMENT--SEE ATTACHED LINK FOR THE WEB ADDRESS:

Dear Quashnet School Community,
We hope that our families are enjoying their four-day weekend.  Spending quality time together as a family provides a foundation for children that is carried with them throughout their lives.  Make every moment matter!
Our teachers work hard every single day.  Last Friday--our Professional Development Day--was no different.  We worked collaboratively all morning on curriculum, and learned about "Accountable Talk" in the afternoon.  We are excited about implementing this instructional practice with our students.
We are asking all staff and students to help us celebrate future planning and higher education by wearing a favorite college sweatshirt or T-shirt this WEDNESDAY.  This is a K-12 Mashpee event!
Wednesday is the mid-point of our first trimester.  All student assignments will be posted to Power School by the end of the day on Tuesday, 10/14.  Teacher comments will also be posted.  Parents are encouraged/requested to access their child's Power School account on a regular basis to monitor progress.  Please make sure you visit the site on Wednesday, 10/15--Progress Report Day.
Please join Superintendent Hyde on Thursday, 10/16, for his Parent Coffees.  You can choose to attend the 9:00 AM or the 6:00 PM session(QS Library).
Please join us on Friday night for the PTO sponsored Crazy Hat/Family Bingo Night from 6 - 8 PM in our cafeteria.  This is a wonderful event full of laughter and great company.

HALLOWEEN CANDY FOR OUR TROOPS
Mrs. Rastallis and Mrs. Blount are guiding our school-wide effort to collect Halloween candy and send it to our troops serving overseas.  This will be the 9th year for this very successful and worthwhile program.  Students will be asked to donate some of their Halloween candy to this cause.  After Halloween, families with leftover Halloween candy might choose to make a donation as well.  We are also collecting wet wipes, deodorant, chap sticks, beef jerky, cough drops, cotton swabs, toothbrushes, dental floss, socks, and travel size—shampoo, foot powder, toothpaste, soap + hand sanitizer. We are also seeking mailing sponsors—those willing to donate $15.00 to cover the cost of mailing one box.  Names and addresses for soldiers can be e-mailed directly to Mrs. Rastallis at jrastallis@mashpee.k12.ma.us, or forwarded to the office through a note to your child’s teacher.  Your support will be most appreciated.
QUASHNET’S VETERAN’S DAY ASSEMBLY AND LUNCHEON
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2014
WANTED:  Photos that include a family member who is a veteran or who is currently serving in the military—In preparation for our Veteran’s Day Assembly and Luncheon Celebration (Friday, November 7) we are requesting photographs of family members who have served or are currently serving in the military. Veterans do not have to be in uniform in the photo.  Although not necessary, we would love it if our Quashnet families are also included in the photos with the veteran/active military family member.  The people shown in the photo must be identified.  Please send the photograph to school in an envelope that includes your child’s name and homeroom.  We will do our best to get the photos back to you.  If you are able to scan photos, you can e-mail them to jrastallis@mashpee.k12.ma.us. All photos must be received by October 31.  If your military family member is able to join us on November 7th (10 -12 noon), please call Mrs. Pagano in the main office (ext. 4189).  Information related to this special event was sent home last week.
Be mindful and make the most of every moment of every day.
Let the important people in your life know how much you value them.
Work hard, be kind, and smile.

WE ARE STILL HOPEFUL TO RECEIVE MORE FAMILY PHOTOS FOR OUR FRONT DISPLAY CASES.  PLEASE SEND ONE IN IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY.
With Gratitude,
Patty DeBoer
Principal
