It’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years--Abraham Lincoln

GROWTH MINDSET: WITH TIME AND EFFORT I CAN IMPROVE!
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.  Never stop challenging yourself.
"Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud."  Maya Angelou
I need to be seen.  I need to be heard.  I need to be respected.  I need to be safe.  I need to belong.  When all of my basic needs are met. . . then. . . I’m ready to learn.             (Anonymous)

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  QUASHNET SCHOOL/PTO ANNUAL CRAFT FAIR
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2014--ALWAYS AN OUTSTANDING EVENT!!

REMINDER:  PLEASE CHOOSE A PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE APPOINTMENT--CLICK ATTACHED LETTER FOR THE WEB ADDRESS:

Dear Quashnet School Community,
Last Wednesday marked the midpoint of Term 1.  This is a good time for students to “right their ship” if needed.  Is learning a top priority for me?  Are there changes I can make that will help me learn better?  Am I coming to school rested or am I tired?   Do I demonstrate my best effort in all of my work?  Do I ask questions when I don’t understand?  Each student needs to “own” his/her role in the learning process.  Now is the time to take steps so that growth/improvement can be documented on the Term 1 report card.  We will do all that we can to help every single student achieve his/her goals and our goals.
The poem included below reminds us of the importance of our working together to help each and every Quashnet School student achieve and be happy.  The value of learning and working hard to achieve goals must remain at the forefront.  We owe it to this next generation to make sure they have been provided with a solid and positive foundation that will allow them to choose any path on their journey.  Growth happens gradually, often one tiny step at a time.  As adults, we know how fast time passes, and therefore, we must make each and every day the very best that it can be for our children/students.  The message that quality effort, hard work, and a positive attitude can make a difference should be repeated and modeled daily.  Together we can help our children/students be successful and happy.
Parent/Teacher Poem
by Ray A. Lingenfelter

I dreamed I stood in a studio
And watched two sculptors there,
The clay they used was a young child's mind
And they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher,
The tools she used were books and music and art;
One was a parent with a guiding hand
And a gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done
They were proud of what they had wrought
For the things they had worked into the child
Could never be sold or bought.

And each agreed she would have failed
If she had worked alone
For behind the parent stood the school,
And behind the teacher stood the home.

HALLOWEEN CANDY FOR OUR TROOPS
Mrs. Rastallis and Mrs. Blount are guiding our school-wide effort to collect Halloween candy and send it to our troops serving overseas.  This will be the 9th year for this very successful and worthwhile program.  Students will be asked to donate some of their Halloween candy to this cause.  After Halloween, families with leftover Halloween candy might choose to make a donation as well.  We are also collecting wet wipes, deodorant, chap sticks, beef jerky, cough drops, cotton swabs, toothbrushes, dental floss, socks, and travel size—shampoo, foot powder, toothpaste, soap + hand sanitizer. We are also seeking mailing sponsors—those willing to donate $15.00 to cover the cost of mailing one box.  Names and addresses for soldiers can be e-mailed directly to Mrs. Rastallis at jrastallis@mashpee.k12.ma.us, or forwarded to the office through a note to your child’s teacher.  Your support will be most appreciated.

QUASHNET’S VETERAN’S DAY ASSEMBLY AND LUNCHEON
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2014
WANTED:  Photos that include a family member who is a veteran or who is currently serving in the military—In preparation for our Veteran’s Day Assembly and Luncheon Celebration (Friday, November 7) we are requesting photographs of family members who have served or are currently serving in the military. Veterans do not have to be in uniform in the photo.  Although not necessary, we would love it if our Quashnet families are also included in the photos with the veteran/active military family member.  The people shown in the photo must be identified.  Please send the photograph to school in an envelope that includes your child’s name and homeroom.  We will do our best to get the photos back to you.  If you are able to scan photos, you can e-mail them to jrastallis@mashpee.k12.ma.us. All photos must be received by October 31.  If your military family member is able to join us on November 7th (10 -12 noon), please call Mrs. Pagano in the main office (ext. 4189).  Information related to this special event was sent home last week.
