Attendance Policies and Letters

I want to bring some clarity to student attendance policies from the state and from the district. If your child is absent, please make sure to inform the main office using the QS attendance line, through email at qsattendance@mpspk12.org. This is a way we track students and make sure everyone is safe and we also take this into account at a school level when considering attendance expectations. However, this does not make an absence excused. The state attendance policies are such that no absences are considered excused or unexcused. An absence is an absence.

Students are considered chronically absent if they have missed 10% of school days to date. If you want to read more about Student attendance please check this link: https://www.doe.mass.edu/sfs/attendance/

Please do everything you can to get your child to school. The 10% of days is built in so that if a student is legitimately sick they can stay home, get well, and then return to school. Students should only miss school if they are sick. We are required to notify families in writing when students have been chronically absent. Our first round of letters for this school year is going out soon.

Sixth Grade Teacher Change

We have a personnel change in the building that will go into effect, tomorrow, Nov. 13. Mrs. Pimental, will now be teaching ELA on the sixth-grade team with Mrs. Geggatt, and Ms. Baccaro. Mrs. Pimental is a long-time fifth teacher at Quashnet, and in the past few years has been teaching Health and Wellness. All the students know Mrs. Pimental from Health class throughout their fifth and sixth-grade years. She is incredibly well respected among the other staff and the community and has a long and successful career at Quashnet.

We are very excited that Mrs. Pimental is going to be taking on this new challenge and joining our sixth grade. I will be addressing all the students on this team tomorrow morning in the library to go over a few new expectations that come with the change.

Picture Reminder

This is a quick reminder to check the pictures on the blog by clicking on the "Photos 2023-24" tab. Many quality photos of students have been added, and it's great to see all the impressive work students are doing at Quashnet.

Pasta Dinner - Dec. 14

Mark your calendars now for the evening of December 14, 2023, at 5:30pm for the Quashnet Pasta Dinner. This has been a very successful and well-attended community event in past years and we are excited to continue this tradition in 2023. All pasta is free for students and families that come and is provided by the school. Other fun activities may take place that night as well, and more information will provided as we draw closer.

An Assembly & A Field Trip

This week, on Tuesday, November 14 our fourth-grade students are attending the Young People's Concert put on by the Cape Cod Symphony at Barnstable High School from 9:15am to 11:15am. It is incredibly important that fourth-grade students are not late for school that day.

On the same day, November 14, in the afternoon from 2:00pm-2:45pm, there is a whole school assembly for a Native American Presentation in recognition of Native American Heritage Month.

It’s GREAT to be in MASHPEE,
