October 8, 2023

Dear Quashnet School Community,

I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather this past week and is enjoying the nice long weekend.

Sign Up for Parent-Teacher Conference

Conference sign-ups went out earlier this week. Here is the link and a reminder to sign up for a conference with your child's teacher.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

For those who may not know, Mrs. Pons in the library puts on an awesome Pumpkin Decorating Contest each year. Every year there are very cool displays entered by students. I highly encourage students to participate. Please click on the Pumpkin decorating contest - Link in flier to get all the information and qualifications for the contest. It is the time of year to get started on decorating your pumpkins!

MCAS Dates
Spring may feel like a ways away, but it will be here before you know it. I want to share the Quashnet School's MCAS testing dates with you now for your planning purposes. It is crucial that your child is at school for the days we take MCAS, so please factor that in when making plans for Spring.

MCAS TESTING DATES

Quashnet School Road Race Team!

Ever think about joining the Falmouth Road Race? Looking for a way to support Quashnet and our PTO?

We are putting out feelers to see if anyone would be willing to join a group to raise money for the Quashnet PTO and participate in the Falmouth Road Race next summer.

If you haven't run the Falmouth Road Race before, it is really an awesome experience. There are ~12,000 participants and many more thousands of people along the way, cheering everyone on. The 7-mile course goes from Water Street in Woods Hole, along Vineyard Sound, and ends around the other side of Falmouth Harbor. Runners and walkers of all speeds are welcome, participating alone or in small groups. It is scheduled for August 18, 2024. Typically, super fast people and Falmouth residents are guaranteed spots in the race, while everyone else has to enter a (quite competitive) lottery. However, if you raise money and participate on behalf of a charity, you get a guaranteed spot.

So, we are seeking anyone interested in joining our school to apply for Numbers for our Nonprofit team on behalf of Quashnet. Once we have a sense of how many people are interested, we will put together our application. Each team member will need to commit to soliciting donations from your network of people.
If you are interested, please contact Brian Kehrl at bkehrl (at) mpspk12.org or 508-539-1550 by next Friday, October 13.

Postural Screenings

Our school nurse, Terri Richards would like me to inform you of the upcoming postural screening for grades 5 and 6 students starting on Wednesday, October 11.  Nurse Terri will be working collaboratively with the physical education and wellness faculty to complete these Massachusetts Department of Public Health required screenings.

The screenings will take place in the nurse's office one student at a time to provide privacy.

If you have any questions or concerns or if you do not want your child screened please contact Nurse Terri at 508-539-1550 X4155 or by email at trichards@mpspk12.org.  If she doesn’t hear from you by the morning of October 11th, she will proceed as scheduled.

You will be informed of the results only if further medical evaluation is needed.
