Dear Quashnet School Community,
This is a busy weekend for many of our school community families who celebrate Easter, Passover, or Ramadan. Hopefully, you have all had or are having a wonderful holiday. Below are some interesting facts about how these holidays are coinciding this year which occurs approximately every 30 years.
"Easter, Passover, and Ramadan are all happening around the same time this year. It’s a rare and wonderful coincidence, and it’s an opportunity for people of different faiths to come together and celebrate their traditions. The fact that these three major religious observances occur at the same time this year is significant because it highlights the common themes of faith, sacrifice, and renewal that are shared by many religions.
The timing of Easter, Passover, and Ramadan is based on different calendars and lunar cycles, so their occurrence at the same time is rare and unpredictable. In fact, it is only a coincidence when they occur at the same time. The Jewish calendar is based on the lunar cycle, while the Christian calendar is based on the solar cycle. As a result, the dates of Passover and Easter vary each year. Ramadan is also based on the lunar calendar, and its timing shifts approximately 11 days earlier each year." (goodthingsguy.com)

Thank you, Ms. Manning and students, for your leadership and for your selfless work. What a great example of being an "Engaged Citizen" an important competency in Mashpee's Portrait of a Graduate.
Friday, April 14 is PURPLE UP DAY - wear purple for kids!
Purple Up Day is observed every year on April 15. The holiday was selected during the Month of the Military Child. It is an opportunity to honor military children from all branches of the military.
ENERGY CARNIVAL
Last Friday brought some special hands-on learning fun to Quashnet School. With the help of MMHS teacher, Mrs. Hough, and these wonderful MMHS students, Quashnet scholars engaged in multiple energy-focused learning stations. Be sure to check out the pictures on the photo tab above. A special thank you to Cape Light Compact for their support of this learning opportunity.Students in Mrs. Porter's class are working together as peer editors.
Mr. Souza's class recently visited 1st grade as reading buddy ambassadors - see the picture below.

Working together and building leadership is a beautiful thing! This is another example of developing Mashpee's Portrait of a Graduate competencies with students.
MCAS Update
Thank you students and families for being in school and on time last week for ELA MCAS. Testing went very smoothly. Students worked hard and we are all very appreciative of their effort.
During MCAS we can only allow one student to use the facilities at a time. Without the help of these amazing volunteers, it would be very hard to accomplish this task because the whole staff is engaged in the testing process. If you would like to be a hall monitor during our upcoming Math or Science MCAS test dates, please reach out to Mrs. Ryder at fryder@mpspk12.org.
Math MCAS dates: May 9 & 10 Science MCAS (Grade 5 ONLY) - May 16 & 17
