April 18, 2023

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Tonight is a school night! Early to bed and early rise in the morning. Tomorrow, April 24, is a full day of school.  Hopefully, the April vacation brought some rest and relaxation for all. Welcome back!

This Wednesday, April 26,

wear blue for

Autism Acceptance!

A reminder from Mr. Morris - Students PLEASE be prepared for class by wearing sneakers when you have PE. Students are expected to be physically active and running is a challenge in Crocs and flip-flops. To help avoid injury, sneakers are also recommended for recess. Other shoe choices can be dangerous on the recess equipment.

Our annual Staff v Students Floor Hockey Game was the Friday before the break. It is always a fan favorite for sure! Be sure to check out the videos and photos in the table above. Congratulations to two very well-matched teams.  The final score of 3-4 came out with the teachers on top! Get ready Grade 5 - you're up next!

April 28th is Jiji's birthday!

Let's celebrate!

ST Math and Mind Education is making a difference!

PICTURE DAY IS COMING...

May 2

for individual and class pictures

Quashnet Students will all be participating in Mathematics MCAS testing on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 9 & 10.  Just like ELA MCAS, students do not study for the test but they do need a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast before testing.  Schedules will be adjusted for the two days to allow testing in the morning for all students.

Just a few MCAS reminders:
1. Read each question thoroughly and more than once
2. Answer every part of the question
3. Use scrap paper for calculations
4. Check your work
5. Do not leave anything blank

School Lunch Notice

As you know, school lunches are available to all students at no charge provided that students take a complete meal. A complete meal includes the entree, milk, fruit, and veggie. Families will be charged a la carte if students do not take the complete meal. This is not a school rule - it is based on school lunch funding regulations. Many students have been questioning the reasons for this - just sharing in case the discussion has come up in your household.

Field trip season is coming soon! In order to chaperone on a field trip, all volunteers MUST have an up-to-date CORI on file with the district. To complete this process use this link HERE to get an application.

This CANNOT be done on the day of a field trip, it must be done several days in advance. Please plan ahead if you have arranged to chaperone a trip with the classroom teacher.

This Wednesday, April 26, is Administrative Assistants Day. We are SO fortunate to have Mrs. Felicia Ryder, Mrs. Kate Milde, and Ms. Margaret Messina at Quashnet School. They are always there with a smile, a helping hand, and willing to do whatever it takes. We appreciate our administrative assistants!

MMHS seniors are working hard to complete their senior projects and Quashnet students are benefiting from a few. Our third graders are being introduced to four sessions of dance during their recess block on April 25&27 and May 2&4.  This is a recess option for our third-grader students only. They are very excited after having met Mashpee senior, Miss Piper Hughes!

Miss Rebecca Swanson's senior project is to bring the koi pond at Quashnet School back to life. She is working with a small group of students who are doing some of the work and learning about how to care for koi.  The pond is located in the fifth-grade courtyard.

Below is another community service project from an MMHS senior -

We are all looking forward to welcoming our students back to school tomorrow,

April 24, at 8:50 AM.

Respectfully,

Principal O'Brien
