February 12, 2023

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Tuesday, February 14th is Valentine's Day! It is a fun day to celebrate those you love. A few school reminders - please be sure to check with your child's teacher about any classroom expectations. As a district, we follow the School Committee Wellness Policy - please refrain from sending in treats. If the classroom is exchanging Valentine's - one for each student, please.  It is a great day to show kindness in how we treat each other.

Well done Vex IQ team competitors! These students demonstrated perseverance, resilience, creativity, collaboration, and sportsmanship at the recent VEX IQ tournament. These students are developing the skills as defined in Mashpee's Portrait of a Graduate.  Thank you, coaches, Mrs. Whiddon and Mrs. Johnson, and all the helpers for providing this outstanding opportunity for students.

Last Thursday, the Miss Keohanes, Mrs. Hill, Mr. Felix, Ms. Kelleher, and others supported another group of students in highlighting some of the talents of our fabulous students at The Night to Shine. We laughed, we cried, and just had a great time celebrating our performers.  Congratulations to these talented students on a job well done!

Issac Pacheco, MeeQ Thomas, Yasha Pateaev, Corrina Russo, Evan Dudley, Sandas Mustafa, Chase Sassone, Ruth Clark, Deshawn Allen, Emma Barron, Bobby Maffei, Maiyah Holley, Riley Perry, Lily Sandborg, Isabella Loomis, Jeannie Ewing, Emma Peck, Lana Beloin, Logan Janedy, Alice Clark, Gianna Gutt, Jack Franzago, Juleena Espanda, Mitchell Mastroianni, Gabriel Soares, Jamaine Blackwood, Bridgette Ponce, Ayla Brooks, Mia Fernandes, Cecelia McGee, and Jayden Williams.

Participation at Quashnet grows into new opportunities as students move through the grade levels. This was clearly evident last night at MMHS during the Piano Man Concert as MMHS students joined professional musicians on the stage and demonstrated skill, poise, and confidence. At the VEX IQ competition, some of last year's Quashnet robotics team came back to volunteer in various roles demonstrating their knowledge and skill. Finding that niche and participating is SO important.

This short but informative video is an example of Grade 6 ELA class with Mrs. McBrien.  When reading more complex or important text, Mrs. McBrien has students finger track their reading and "soft buzz" which is a read-out-loud strategy.  Each student is engaged and able to tackle the challenge. It is also a great strategy for homework!

Here's Jiji!

Check out ST Math update - the video link is below.

ST Math Update Video February 6, 2023

If you hear "I'm bored" over vacation week - there is a Jiji competition going on for Quashnet kids. Students are able to sign on at home and work on their math journey and solve puzzles. Look for this notice going home this week! If your child is having trouble signing on from home- please reach out to the teacher before break!

The Quashnet Student Council has declared this week - Spirit Week! Be a part of the team and students get ready for some fun!

Flag of Cape Verde

We are excited to welcome representatives from the Cape Cod Cape Verdean Museum and Cultural Center this coming Friday. In recognition of Black History Month, students will participate in an assembly learning about the rich culture and influence of the Cape Verdean community.

Grade 5 students will all be participating in WetFest aka the Water Festival. This is a hands-on, fun-filled 2-hour experience where students will be engaged in approximately 12 water-based activities. They will be learning about the water cycle, pollution, conservation, properties of water, watersheds, and more. We are very happy to partner with Americorp volunteers for this great learning experience this coming Friday.
