November 13, 2022

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Today, November 13, 2022, is WORLD KINDNESS Day -

November is Native American Heritage Month. We are very excited to welcome members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and Cameron Greendeer on Tuesday, November 15 for an educational assembly to include dancers, drummers, and traditions. This is an educational celebration for all students and a pride-filled presentation for our Native students. Thank you to the Tribal Education Department for organizing this fabulous event.

This photo is from last year's presentation.

Another wonderful annual event is back! Grade 4 students are heading to Barnstable High School on Tuesday morning to enjoy the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra's Young People's Concert. Key features:

  • Nov. 15th, 2022 @ Barnstable Performing Arts Center
  • 45 min. concert
  • The program will feature Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra and Paul Dukas' Sorcerer's Apprentice.
  • With the full complement of Cape Symphony musicians.

Thank you, Mrs. Hill and Mr. Felix, for organizing this wonderful opportunity for our Grade 4 students and the opportunity below!

Music is in the air! On Tuesday, November 22, Grade 5 & 6 students will participate in a Jazz presentation. Thank you Provincetown Jazz Festival!
"The Jazz in the Schools Program was started in 2014 by Bart Weisman, Founder, Executive Producer & Performer for the Provincetown Jazz Festival. For many children, this is their first chance to hear live Jazz and participate in a program to learn about Jazz History and all styles of Jazz.  This is a 45-minute program for schools presented by Bart Weisman on drums from Orleans, with Fred Boyle on piano from South Yarmouth, and Rich Hill on bass from East Falmouth. Presentations have been made at public schools across Cape Cod and all of this at “no" cost to the schools. The program is funded by the non-profit Provincetown Jazz Festival."

Thank you to all the generous students and community members who donated Halloween Candy for the Troops.  A message from Ms. Manning and the K-Kids, "That’s a wrap on Candy For the Troops, just in time for Veterans Day! 14 boxes of candy and care package supplies shipped to service members abroad and at home." 🇺🇸

It is never too early to participate-

Reminders from last week:

Thank you for supporting the Quashnet School PTO's fundraiser, Falcon Bucks! It is the biggest fundraiser of the year and all the proceeds stay right here at Quashnet School to support our outstanding students and amazing teachers. The PTO helps fund field trips, guest speakers, the 6th Grade barbeque at the end of the year, and other special projects.  Supporting the QS PTO is supporting our Quashnet kids! Thank you 💙

It is that time of year that we partner with Mashpee Recreation to support the "Fill the Van" food drive. Please send in any non-perishable food or items listed on the flyer below.  Any and all donated items may be placed in the front hall of Quashnet School.

FYI: There will not be a post to the QS blog on Sunday, November 20th. The next post will be on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

Have a wonderful week and upcoming holiday ahead.

Respectfully,

Principal O'Brien
