October 16, 2022

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Have you scheduled your parent/teacher conference yet?  The first sessions are this week on Thursday, 10/20, and then again on Tuesday, 10/25.  Both conference days are early release days with student dismissal at 12:30 PM.

Sign up to schedule a conference with your child's teacher HERE.

Conferences should be scheduled with your child's homeroom teacher, even for students in grades 5 and 6 who have multiple teachers. The homeroom teacher will be able to share your child's progress from all classes.  Special subject teacher conferences and additional support staff can be scheduled separately on the link provided.

Special Subject Teachers:
STEM - Mrs. Whiddon
Art - Mrs. Richards
PE - Mr. Morris
Music - Mr. Felix and Mrs. Hill
Library (Grade 3&4) - Mrs. Pons
Health and Wellness (Grades 5&6) - Mrs. Pimental

Here is a quick guide for parents before going to your scheduled conference https://childmind.org/article/teacher-conferences-a-guide-for-parents/. I hope you find it helpful.

PTO Scholastic Book Fair begins on Wednesday, 10/19.  Thank you to the Quashnet School PTO for organizing this for students and families.  The book fair will be open during conference times for parents to be able to visit the fair.  Students will visit the fair with either their Library teacher, Mrs. Pons, or their Health and Wellness teacher, Mrs. Pimental, during their scheduled special.

Friday night BINGO for families is this Friday, October 21 @ 6:30 PM.  Come and have some family fun! The book fair will be open between 5:30 and 6:30 PM before Bingo. Crazy hats are encouraged but not required!

We are looking forward to seeing chapter-book character pumpkins in the front hallway. Drop off is tomorrow 10/17 through 10/21.  Can't wait to see that creativity!  Details are below.

Our fabulous K-Kids are at it again! They will be collecting Halloween candy for the troops. There will be a collection bin in the front lobby of the school to place any donations.

K-Kids are also looking for the names and addresses of family members or friends in the armed services that you would like to receive a Quashnet care package. Please send names to our K-Kids advisor, Ms. Manning, at smanning@mpspk12.org. Each care package has candy and personalized notes from students. Quashnet students care!

On the photos tab above, there are great pictures from a special event last week, 18th Century, Through "Their" Eyes. Thank you to both Mrs. Franklin and Mr. Darius Coombs for organizing this wonderful opportunity for third and fifth graders. This hands-on learning opportunity was followed up with a question-and-answer session the following day.

Are you familiar with Mashpee's Portrait of a Graduate?  Two of the competencies that directly link to this event are being an Engaged Citizen, specifically, B-6: Recognize the varied historical perspectives of Mashpee including those of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, and how they shape our community. The second connection is Empowered Knowledge Seeker -  D-4: Value curiosity and ask questions accordingly D-5: Research and evaluate information from varied sources. Every grade level has opportunities to build on these competencies to ensure a graduate has these important lifelong skills. Click here to view the MPS Portrait of a Graduate.
