Dear Quashnet School Community,
Please join me this Tuesday night for the MPS Virtual Family Read Aloud.
Last Wednesday, May 5th, began our final quinmester.
Students are participating in their fifth and final special subject class for this school year. The five special subject classes are PE, Art, Music, STEM, and Health & Wellness and they each meet for 34 consecutive days. Although there have been some benefits to this schedule and implemented as a result of COVID, we are hoping to return to a five-day special rotation next year. There are two short videos from a Grade 3 Heath and Wellness class on the photo tab above. Mrs. Pimental, the classroom teacher, is teaching healthy habits, body systems, calming strategies, and nutrition, for example. It is a fun and educational place to be!
Get ready for Quashnet School PICTURE DAY coming this Thursday, May 13th!
School Nurse's Day is being celebrated this Wednesday, May 12th. Thank you, Nurse Terri, for all you do for students, families, and staff at Quashnet School. We are SO fortunate to have such a caring and skillful nurse on our team. You are appreciated!
Thank you, MPS District Nurse Coordinator Stacey Schakel. Nurse Stacey has been non-stop this year in handling all that is COVID-19.
This dynamic duo is amazing and we thank them for ALL they do!
PTO is accepting nominations for the QS PTO Board. Amber Smith, the PTO President, has shared the nomination form HERE. Volunteering for a position can also be done on this form.

MCAS Dates are set for
Quashnet School students!
Thursday, May 20 - ELA MCAS, Grades 3-6
Friday, May 21 - Mathematics MCAS, Grades 3-6
Thursday, May 27- Science&Tech/Engineering, Grade 5
*Remote student in-school testing dates: June 2, 3, & 4th.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has a Parents' Guide to MCAS. Students do not "study" for MCAS - the assessment is a cumulative test that covers multiple grade-level standards. MCAS is an untimed assessment, but each session must be completed within a school day.
Tho prepare for MCAS students should...
1. be in school and on time!
2. have a good night's sleep the night before the assessment
3. eat a healthy breakfast
4. try their best and leave no blanks!
MCAS is an opportunity for students to show what they know and it allows us to evaluate our curriculum. But what we really know is...
Mashpee Children Are Smart

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
Respectfully,
Principal O'Brien
