Dear Quashnet School Community,
This school year has certainly been a series of firsts! This week was the first week we did not have to wear masks outside. On Tuesday, students were running to recess with smiles we could see and laughter we could hear! What a beautiful sight! They were figuratively and literally jumping for joy! This is also the case at parent pickup. Students can wait outside without masks on, and with the warmer weather, this sure is a treat!
I have to commend our students. I was fearful that the playgrounds and fields would be littered with lost masks, and to my delight, that has not been the case. Students are responsibly wearing their masks in the halls, putting them in a pocket when they get outside, and then after lunch, there has not been a problem to put them right back on! Well done Quashnet Falcons - way to be Falcon Five leaders! *Masks are still required in the building, in classrooms, and on the bus.
A quick reminder about summer clothing - as the weather gets warmer we all want to be comfortable and stay cool. There is a difference, however, between summer play clothes and what is appropriate for school. Please keep short shorts and loose tank tops for playtime, not for learning time. Thank you for your support on this as we still have a lot of learning to do this school year! To confirm - the last day of school is not until Tuesday, June 22.
WELCOME BACK, MR. WILLIAMS!
Mr. Williams, has been on a military deployment since September. He will be returning to his role as Grade 6 teacher at Quashnet School tomorrow, Monday, May 24. It will be GREAT to have him back and we thank him for his service!
MCAS UPDATE -
It was very impressive last week to see how hard students worked during their ELA and Math MCAS sessions. Students were focused and respectful of each other as they worked. This can be challenging in a classroom when a student finishes early but must remain seated and quiet until everyone has completed their test session.
This week, we will be administering make-up sessions for students who were absent either last Thursday or Friday. Make-up sessions will be held until all students have an opportunity to test or the testing window ends. 100% remote students will be testing the first week of June. Should you have any questions regarding remote testing or make-up sessions, please contact Assistant Principal Kapulka at skapulka@mpspk12.org.
𝄞 Musical STEM Class
Check out the two videos from a fourth-grade Music special on the photo tab above. During the last quinmester, these fourth-grade students participated in STEM, with Mrs. Whiddon, where they designed, built, and programmed their own instruments. This quinmester in Music special, Mrs. Hill is teaching students how to read musical notes and play their homemade instruments. This is an example of outstanding collaboration and planning between teachers to provide students with rich instruction and engaging educational experiences. Students started with an idea, went through a design process, built their instrument, and using technology and programming skills are now able to read and make beautiful music. Very impressive!
The Quashnet School STUDENT COUNCIL is at it again! They are planning a fun week when we return to school after Memorial Day. Students should check the Falcon Flyer for information coming out about SPIRIT WEEK - June 1-June 4.
Walk of Honor is back and coming next Friday- June 4th!
Quashnet School is excited to welcome back the Class of 2021! Students, teachers, and staff will cheer our MMHS seniors as they visit QS for the last time as MPS students. The Walk of Honor will take place outside the building this year as we applaud the graduates!
