June 7, 2020

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Here it is...the last full week of school for the 2019-2020 school year! Who would have thought that this year would be ending this way?  But, we all managed to get through it together! There are a total of 8 more days of Google Classroom assignments and zoom meetings.  Stick with it! We are in the home stretch.

Last week, our Grade 3 students shared some of their remote learning tasks.  Thank you Grade 3 families for sharing these great images and teachers for organizing them  Grade 3 Artists and Scientist.  Well done!

Ready or not here we come!  This Thursday or Friday you may receive a visit from Mrs. Avtges or Mrs. O'Brien as we will be hand-delivering year-end awards to Quashnet Students. We will be following all safety precautions and social distancing. We are SO proud of our students and we couldn't allow these important recognitions to go in the mail! See you soon  😉

How would you like to earn a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlor just for reading this summer?  Registration is now open for the Mashpee Public Library 2020 Online Summer Reading Challenge!

Quashnet students Grade 3 through Grade 6 are being asked to read for 20 minutes a day at least 5 days per week this summer.  20 minutes x 5 days x 10 weeks of summer = the goal of 1,000 minutes.  You can select your own reading materials including books, magazines, graphic novels, and audiobooks… any kind of reading counts!
Students will log the minutes that they read online and will earn a virtual badge for every 250 minutes.

There are four levels of accomplishment:
Bronze Medal Reader – over 500 minutes
Silver Medal Reader – over 1,000 minutes
Gold Medal Reader – over 2,000 minutes
Platinum Medal Reader – over 3,000 minutes

Each level of accomplishment provides a certificate for students to print out when returning to school. And what about that ice cream coupon?  Because of generous support from the Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour, the Mashpee Public Library will mail a coupon to every student who reaches the goal of 1,000 minutes (Silver Medal Reader).

In order to participate in this summer reading challenge, patrons will be using the library’s new Online Reading Tracking Software called Beanstack.  Families or individuals can register at https://mashpeepubliclibrary.beanstack.org/ or by using the Beanstack Tracker App, that can be downloaded from either the iTunes Store or the Google Play Store.  The app is built specifically for mobile phones.

Readers of all ages can register today in seconds as individuals or a family.   Just sign up using your email address and create a password. One adult family member can register all the children in the family under one email address.  Actual logging begins June 17, 2020.  So join us online at the Mashpee Public Library this summer and then you will be headed for ice cream!
