May 17, 2020

Happy Sunday Quashnet School Community,

What a beautiful weekend.  It was the weekend, right?  Is it me or is anyone else having a hard time remembering what day it is? 😁

The distribution of student belongings has been RESCHEDULED. With rain forecasted on Tuesday, May 19, the new distribution date will be on THURSDAY, MAY 21st.  The pick-up schedule is as follows:
A few reminders:
This is a curbside service, please DO NOT park or get out of your cars.
We will not be collecting any school materials.  If your child has books or other school materials, they should be returned when we all return to school.
All playgrounds are closed and not available for use.
PLEASE DO NOT go to the front door. We will be at the back cafeteria door only.
Any lost and found items will be held at school through September.
If you are picking up bags for students with different last names, we will accommodate a single pickup time.

Two of the items that you will find in your student's bag on Thursday is an Everyday Math Journal and Wonders, Read/Write Companion.  Both of these workbooks have multiple pages still to complete and provide great skill practice.  They are a wonderful resource to continue at-home learning and can be used for extra practice over the summer. Teachers may also be referring to pages in these workbooks in future assignments. Please keep them in a handy location.

Quashnet School PTO will have a virtual meeting on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at 6:00 PM.

If you would like to attend this zoom meeting, please send me an email at mobrien@mpspk12.org, and I will send you the code to participate.  Unfortunately, we do not post access codes as a safety protocol.

Thank you, Amber Smith, Kim Schafer, Kim Santos, Cathy Lewis, and Robert Blackburn, the Quashnet PTO Board, for all the hard work in support of Quashnet School students.

Parent/Guardian Opportunity

There are two more virtual meetings for parents/guardians of Quashnet students.  Please join us for the very relevant topics below.  These meetings are on Zoom and facilitated by Assistant Superintendent Hope Hanscom and Quashnet staff. If you have any questions or need information on joining a meeting, please reach out to Assistant Superintendent Hanscom (hhanscom@mpspk12.org).

Routines are important. During this time of being at-home, it can be hard to maintain consistent routines. Research shows that disrupted sleep patterns can affect the mood and the overall physical and mental health of children. Check out this link from the American Academy of Pediatrics,  Healthy-Sleep-Habits.

Electronics have a negative impact on sleep. PLEASE consider having your child(ren) leave their Chromebooks, phones, and any electronic device, including gaming, in a central location at night and NOT in the bedroom. All devices should be turned off at least 60 minutes before bedtime.

New routines can be difficult to establish at first, but a regular sleep schedule is incredibly beneficial. If you need suggestions or support, Quashnet School has an amazing team of counselors more than willing to support you and provide suggestions. Join us for the next two parent sessions listed above. There is a forum to ask questions or you can reach out to the Quashnet School counselors:  Sean Withington (swithington@mpspk12.org), Meg Morrison (mmorrison@mpspk12.org), and Lauren Maggiacomo (lmaggiacomo@mpspk12.org).

This week is a "regular" work week.  We will be observing Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th.

Have a wonderful week everyone. Stay well, stay healthy, stay safe!

Respectfully,
Principal O'Brien
