March 1, 2020
Dear Quashnet School Community,
The MPS theme for March is perseverance. Grade 4 students were reading about Thomas Edison last week - one of the greatest examples of perseverance.
"Thomas Edison was a prolific inventor who invented the first commercially viable lightbulb. This didn't happen overnight, it took many years of theories and experiments to finally get it right. What many people don't know, is that Edison was also the man who developed some of the earliest storage (alkaline) batteries. Do you know how many experiments Edison went through before he got it right? Over 9,000. When asked Isn't it a shame that with the tremendous amount of work you have done you haven't been able to get any results? Edison replied: Results! Why, man, I have gotten lots of results! I know several thousand things that won't work! And that's the beauty of Edison and his perseverance. He never saw a failed attempt as something to be ashamed of. Instead, every failure was a piece of important knowledge. While most everyone would've probably quit after 1, 10, or at most 100 failed experiments, Thomas Edison went on and on until he got it right." https://study.com/academy/lesson/perseverance-definition-quotes-examples.html
"For Edison, F.A.I.L probably meant First Attempt In Learning."
Another example of perseverance was demonstrated this weekend with the Quashnet School Robotics Team. This determined group of Grade 5 students built VexIQ robots and represented our school in two regional competitions. This inaugural group was recognized for teamwork and sportsmanship. When faced with the adversity of a broken controller, they continued to try to fix and adjust to make it work. Their perseverance was noted as they never gave up. Excellent job representing Quashnet School and Mashpee. Go Falcons!
FYI - next year we will be expanding the VEX team for Grade 5 & 6 students. It will be a year-long club. More photos can be found on the photo tab. Thank you, Mrs. Hough, for coaching this inaugural team!
Green Screen Fun |
STEAM Night was a great success! It was wonderful to see so many students and families come to join the fun. QS STEM teacher, Mrs. Whiddon, and all the teachers did an amazing job of preparing engaging activities. Many photos can be found on the photo tab above.
As Mrs. Pons and Mrs. Brooks shared - QS STEAM Night was "out of this world!"
It is that time of year to reserve a 2019-2020 Quashnet School Yearbook. It can be purchased online at ybpay.lifetouch.com with the QS ID code # 9872820. You will be able to place your online order through April 12, 2020. The yearbook includes great candid memories from the school year. Each classroom is featured with the students' school photo. Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for your continued work in creating this wonderful keepsake!

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
