June 2, 2019

Dear Quashnet School Community,

As I was uploading all of this week's photos, I couldn't help but smile. There were so many opportunities this week to see excited learners just filled with smiles.  Grade 3 visited Plimoth Plantation, another Grade 4 class explored Penikese Island, Grade 5 participated in Colonial Day with the Yarmouth Minutemen, our final Grade 6 classes went on the Court Field Trip, four Quashnet terrapins were released at Sandy Neck, and there was a fabulous instrumental concert Thursday night in the gym. It sure was a full week!  Check out all of the pictures and videos from the concert on the photo tab above.

Friday was a true celebration of what it means to be a Mashpee Falcon. One of Mashpee's graduating seniors and all-star football player, Xavier Gonsalves,  took time out of his week to recognize an up and coming younger Falcon star.  Vinny is a sixth-grader who is a top-notch student-athlete and most of all a true Falcon Five follower. In recognition of Vinny's respect for hard work and achievement, Xavier offered up some words of encouragement, invited Vinny to see him play football at UMASS Amherst, and gave Vinny a signed game ball from the MMHS season.  These are two Falcons that are sure to SOAR!  Thank you both for being awesome leaders and remarkable role models for others!

Does your child participate in the band, stings, or chorus?  Next year, there are some changes coming. Please click this link to the brochure explaining the changes, QS Music Program 2019-20, hard copies are also available in the QS office. The time changes are primarily for the fifth and sixth-grade band and strings, but the chorus has also been restructured. These changes were made to address program concerns. One is that students currently have to miss a recess to receive lessons. This will no longer be the case for Grade 5 and 6. Lessons will be offered during general music classes and ensembles will meet during an extended school day, similar to a club offering. The music teachers have interviewed students and hope this will help them stay involved in the music program through sixth grade and beyond. Most students who choose not to continue learning an instrument report it is due to the loss of recess.  FYI-there is no change for Grade 3.

THIS WEEK is SPIRIT WEEK!
Have fun, participate and support the Grade 6 Student Council!

Class of 2018

Quashnet School students and staff look forward to celebrating the MMHS Class of 2019 during this Friday's Walk of Honor.  Seniors will be visiting both the KCC and Quashnet in their caps and gowns.

We applaud MMHS graduates on all of their successes and wish them well in all that is yet to come!

Go Falcons!

Last but not least, I would like to welcome our soon to be Grade 3 students and families to the Sunday Blog. For all who were able to attend Step-up Night, it was very nice to meet you. We were all so impressed last week when the second graders had lunch at Quashnet. They were so polite, prepared, and asked excellent questions. We all look forward to getting to know all of our incoming students!

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead,
Mrs. O'Brien, Principal

Go Bruins!
