Happy Mother's Day to our Quashnet family. I hope you all have had a wonderful day! Being called "mom" is truly an honor and a privilege. It is the most important job anyone can have.
Looking at the weather bug today, it shows another rainy week ahead. Please know, every effort will be made to get outside for recess. Students should dress appropriately for outdoor recess while considering a cold and possibly raw day. Many students are trying to make that shift to summer - but it is COLD especially on the field and playgrounds. We are not there yet! That being said, lost and found is growing again. If you are in school, don't forget to check out the lost and found rack located near the front door.
Tuesday, May 14th @ 6:00 PM the Grade 3 music performance will be held in the Quashnet gym. Students have worked all year on songs and dance steps. Hope you can make it for this fun and entertaining event to celebrate our third graders!
MCAS Update
ELA and Mathematics MCAS is complete. Grade 5 students will be assessed in Science/Technology Engineering on Wednesday and Thursday, May 15th and 16th. Just like the ELA and Math sessions, PLEASE be in school ON TIME. Late students will not be allowed to enter a room once testing has begun.
The best test preparation, is a good night sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, and receiving words of encouragement to answer every question, take their time, and for students to know you believe in them. Historically, Quashnet students have done well on the STE testing especially with the multiple choice questions, but answering written responses completely needs to be a focus. Students have been taught the standards on which they will be assessed, now its time to "SHOW ALL YOU KNOW!" :-)
Many students have asked when they will receive their results. Although I do not have an exact date, MCAS results will be sent home to families in the fall (end of September or October). The release date is determined by the state and I will share it when I know it.
Thank you Quashnet PTO, Tracy Fisher, Cathy Lewis, Cori Johnson, Deb Flaherty, Jamie Vincent, Kim Santos, Kathleen Serafini and everyone who contributed and helped with the staff appreciation luncheon. IT WAS AMAZING! The staff and I appreciate ALL you do - it was a wonderful day!
The PTO also sponsored Friday's Game Night event in the QS library. Check out the pictures on the photo tab above. It was a great night and the hot pretzels were a big hit! The PTO truly adds to the Quashnet School experience. Please consider being a part of this wonderful group. There are multiple opportunities to get involved from large commitments to small ones. Together, the impact is felt by all!
The tab above titled Week at a Glance contains all the QS clubs, events, and field trips. It is a good calendar for reference. There is also a link to the district calendar on that page with all events. I hope you find it helpful.
Just a thought - if we didn't have these rainy cloudy days, we wouldn't appreciate the beautiful days as much!
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.
Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien, Principal
