你好
Nǐ hǎo

Hello Quashnet School Community,

I am so pleased to share that we have once again been contacted by Boston Ivy Global Education
requesting to partner with Quashnet School and Mashpee families in welcoming approximately 20 exchange students from Bejing, China. As soon as the students receive a visa for their visit to the US, we will receive a short bio from each of them.  The students are elementary students in Grades 3-6. Their English skills will vary from very good to limited, but with the help of Google Translate or other great apps, communication is easy.  The expected stay is from May 17th - May 24th, but again that may vary slightly based on visas and flight arrangements.  Below is information from Boston Ivy on being a host family:

With the objective of offering a global education for all of our students, Mashpee
School District is excited to announce that Quashnet families have an opportunity to
host elementary age students from Beijing again!  As families of Mashpee, we invite
you to welcome a Chinese student into your home during their brief visit to our
country.
We need families who are willing to host one or two Chinese students in their home
for the 7 days of their visit. This is a wonderful opportunity to help a child, who is
very excited to visit the United States and interact with an American family. It’s also
a wonderful opportunity for Quashnet families to engage with a young person from
another culture and establish a connection that can extend well beyond this one-
week visit.
It is not necessary for host families to be able to speak Chinese.
The host family’s responsibilities include:
  • Housing the student while he/she is here. Students will spend every night with their host family except for the one when the students travel to NYC. An itinerary will be provided.
  • Giving the student meals, while he/she is in your home.
  • Making sure the student gets to school on time in the morning. If your child takes the bus, the Chinese student staying with you can also take the bus
  • Picking up the student at school when he/she returns from group field trips. This will typically be in the early evening.
On days that the Chinese students are at school, they will be in the same classroom
as their host family’s student. All the students that are visiting have health insurance and host families will be given someone they can contact 24/7 in case of questions or an emergency.

As we get more information I will be sure to share it.  Please consider this great opportunity to help make the world a smaller place! If you have any questions please call, stop in, or email me directly at  mobrien@mpspk12.org

This is ELA MCAS week!

ELA MCAS testing is scheduled for ALL students in Grade 3-6 on Wednesday and Thursday, April 3rd and 4th.

Are we ready?  YES!  Quashnet School teachers and staff have prepared students with the skills needed to be successful for MCAS. Students have this great opportunity to SHOW WHAT THEY KNOW.  A couple of ways to support our scholars at home are:

1.  Get to bed early the night before testing.
2.  Have a healthy breakfast with protein.
3.  Reinforce that they are READY and that EFFORT will make a difference.
4.  Tell them to TAKE THEIR TIME and REVIEW their work.
5.  Answer ALL questions - leave NO blanks.
6.  Most of all - APPLY the skills and strategies that they have been taught.
7.  Letting them know that YOU believe in them is so reinforcing.
8.  Be to school ON TIME.

These are 8 strategies that will make a difference every day to support your child's learning in school.  Together, we can give them the best opportunity to be successful scholars.

Congratulations to the following Quashnet School students who were recognized in the Cape Cod Times Classroom Times this weekend:

😊Well done!

The donations totaled $3,869.00! WOW! Congratulations to Mrs. Stroshine's Grade 4 classroom for earning the first place award of a pasta dinner from Olive Garden. The second place classroom was Mrs. McKay's Grade 4 class. Excellent effort everyone!
Last week's totals - FINAL DONATION $3,869.00
The Quashnet School National Elementary Honor Society organized a student event, Jump Rope for Heart. With only one week of fundraising, the group raised $1,817.00 for the American Heart Association. Again, this is evidence of a very caring and connected community.  THANK YOU for supporting students as they are supporting others!

Tuesday, April 2, is Autism Awareness Day - Students and staff please wear your light blue to show your support!

A few seats are still available:  On Friday, April 5, 2019, Mrs. Richards, the Quashnet School art teacher, will be leading a family paint night.  She has designed a beautiful painting of a cherry blossom branch for each painter to create. This event is limited to 50 painters and students must be accompanied by an adult.  The cost of each painter is $10. If the cost is a challenge, please contact me directly at mobrien@mpspk12.org. Use the following link to sign up - participation is based on a first come first serve basis. Family Paint Night Sign-Up.
