March 10, 2019

Dear Quashnet School Community,

It is frightful how fast time goes by! March has certainly come in like a lion this year with the cold weather. We have had more indoor recess day this month than any other. As you know our threshold is 20 degrees, based on wind chill.  When we have had indoor recess, we work to rotate two classes per grade level to visit the gym.  Hopefully, in mid-March, we will be back to outdoor recess! That physical activity and fresh air during the day helps everyone.

Music in Our Schools Month concert is another reason to be excited about mid-March.  This Thursday, March 14th, there is sure to be an amazing concert at MMHS starting at 6:00 PM. KCC, Quashnet and MMHS student musicians all perform together.  It is a fabulous night to celebrate our Mashpee musicians.  Warning - get to the high school early, parking and seating are at a premium!

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 22!

Get those anti-vaping poster in!  Each student who submits a poster has a chance to win a $100, $50, or a $25 gift card.  Most importantly though is to help communicate the dangers of vaping.
This continues to be a growing problem.

With students not in school this Friday, March 15th,
it is a great way to spend time in creating this awareness poster.

Sponsored by Mashpee Public School, Kiwanis Club of Mashpee, and the Mashpee Substance Use Task Force.

Are you struggling with technology or have questions on how to manage your child's cell phone?

There is an educational 4 part series for parents, guardians, and caregivers meeting on March 27, April 3 & 10, and May 1st @ KCC from 6-7 PM.  The enrollment is limited to 20 families, so if you are interested, call 508-539-1520 x5108.  The program is geared toward parents of all school-age children.

These conversations and training help us to become more tech-savvy and understand how to handle some of the challenges that come with technology.

Each participant will receive the book designed for parents, iRules, by Janell Burley-Hoffman.

Calling all Falcon Families!
It's time for the Family Skate Event

When:  Sunday, March 31st from 1:30-2:30 PM

Where:  Gallo Ice Arena, Bourne

This is a free event to have some Falcon fun. Rentals are available, but sizes can run out.  If you have skates, bring them! Looking forward to seeing you there! Please bring a can good or food item to donate - recommended items are on the back of the flyer sent home.

We are very excited to welcome a local author this week, Lauren Wolk, who will be meeting with the fourth-graders.  Ms. Wolk wrote a novel titled, Beyond the Bright Sea. This story takes place on Penikese Island, which is an island off of Woods Hole and the spot of an upcoming fourth-grade field trip in June. If you have a fourth-grader, be sure to ask about the visit on Wednesday after school.

Reminders:
Friday, March 15th is a staff professional development day.  NO SCHOOL for STUDENTS!

Thursday, March 14th is  GREEN   day at Quashnet.

Have a wonderful week ahead.  See you at the concert on Thursday!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien, Principal
