Dear Quashnet School Community,
A very special and heartfelt thank you to the Souza family for gifting an American flag that was given to the family on the passing of the loving grandfather of several former Quashnet students. Lawrence Souza was an American veteran having served in both the Air Force and Coast Guard. Hi son, Kirk Souza, hoisted the flag on Friday in honor of his dad along with the help of fourth grader Mason M. We are honored to fly this flag in his memory.
The Town of Mashpee's Memorial Day Service will honor, and pay tribute to, our fallen heroes on Monday, May 29th. The ceremony will take place beginning at 10 am at the Mashpee Community Park, 13 Great Neck Road North, Mashpee (across from Town Hall) www.mashpeema.gov.
Friday was Career Day at Quashnet School. It was great to see so many parents, community members, and first responders come out to share their hobbies and careers with our students. There are great pictures from the day on the photo tab above. Our presenters ranged from chefs, realtors, musicians, civil engineers, restauranteurs, first responders, and members of the military for example.
Both Mrs. Milde and Mrs. MacIntire worked together to schedule a memorable day for students. Thank you!
Of course, to add to the excitement of the day, the fire alarm went off twice. With the help of the firefighters already at school, it was determined quickly that there was an issue with the water flow to the school's sprinkler system. There was no detection of fire or smoke. Upon checking the sprinkler system, it was determined that it is fully functioning. During both alarms, students and staff responded quickly and appropriately following safety protocols.

Mrs. Whiddon and her sixth-grade STEM students built 25 bat houses to be placed around Mashpee. This collaborative project included help from Mr. Dan Kent, from Mashpee's conservation department, woodcutters from MMHS, and Southport Falcon volunteers to help with construction. These houses will hopefully help provide bats a safe habitat.

Wishing you all a beautiful holiday weekend and a great week ahead. Reminder, Monday, June 5, is an early release day with student dismissal at 12:30 PM. Respectfully,
Principal O'Brien
