 June 19, 2022

Dear Quashnet School Community and Grade 2 Families,

We are almost to the finish line of the 2021-2022 school year.  The last day of school is this Thursday, June 23, with student dismissal at 12:30 PM.

Monday, June 20th, school will be closed in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday (History.com). For more information on the history of the Juneteenth, click HERE.

Recognition awards are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Notifications were sent out to families if your child is receiving an award. If you have any questions about that, please be sure to call the office.

Be sure to check out all the photos from the week on the photo tab above.  We had baby chicks born this week at Quashnet, all grades participated in field day, there was a Grade 3 field trip to Plimoth Patuxet Museum, Grade 4 students read to friends at the Coombs School, and more.  Enjoy!

SUMMER READING Grades 3-6

To get started on summer reading, Quashnet kids have been diving into the reading pool in the front lobby.

Thank you, Mrs. Pons, for putting books in each student's hands!

If books are needed over the summer, be sure to visit the Little Free Library stations around town - assembled by QS students and DPW in STEM class a few years ago. A great project designed by Mrs. Whiddon.

Learning is FUN!

SUMMER READING FOR RISING GRADE 7 STUDENTS

At the end of the school year, we celebrate our retirees.  Thank you, Mr. Sean O'Connor, most recently a Grade 5 teacher, for 19 years of supporting Mashpee students and families.  Mrs. Amy Campbell is currently a Grade 6 Special Education teacher, who has worked hard for Mashpee students for 21 years.  Mrs. Jackie Rastallis retired in November as a Special Education teacher following 21 years of service. Mr. Sean Withington and Keiki retired as school counselors in January after 12 years of providing support to so many.

Their impact is lasting and so appreciated. THANK YOU on behalf of our entire school community!

As the year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for your support.  We began this year in hopes of getting back to "normal" and we are almost there.  It was wonderful to be able to welcome families and visitors back into school and to provide concerts, plays, a step-up night, and Career Day for example. How terrific when we returned to school in February without masks and started working in groups again.  Midyear, the lunch room reverted back to tables facing each other.  Wow, it sure has been a rollercoaster ride the last two years. Hopefully, the ride is over! Enjoy the summer to regroup, rejuvenate, and enjoy family time.

Happy summer!
