June 10, 2018

Dear Quashnet School Community and Grade 2 families,

Here it is - the last full week of the 2017-2018 school year! The last day of school for students is a week from Wednesday, June 20th. Student dismissal is at 11:30 AM. Report cards will be distributed that day.  Please be sure to have all library books in as soon as possible and any financial obligations met.  If you have any questions about about lunch charges please call or email Mr. Gus Stickley at gstickley@mpspk12.org, for questions regarding library books you can email our school librarian, Mrs. Pons, at  kpons@mpspk12.org.

For summer reading students are asked to log their minutes reading through Mashpee Public Library. It is a wonderful program called Reading Rocks and information has/is being sent home. This week we learned of another summer reading program as well.  Check it out!  NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS SUMMER READING BLITZLog summer reading minutes through the New England Patriots program and you could win some pretty cool prizes including meeting player Malcolm Mitchell! The same minutes spent reading can be logged into both websites. By reading 20 minutes a day over the summer, students retain their skills and are ready to fly come September.  Thank you for your partnership in having your child(ren) avoid the "summer slide."  The following link is the Patriots Summer Reading Blitz registration:  https://www.patriots.com/community/rbtl - this is TIME SENSITIVE - register now!

CONGRATULATIONS goes to the Quashnet School Invention Convention club who participated in this STEM sponsored activity at Bridgewater State University this week. Both teams, under the leadership of Mrs. Whiddon, brought home a trophy.  Bryce and Brayden won Best Use of Technology for their heat sensing robot and team BARricade, Taylor, Piper, Lucas, Robee, and Emmy took honorable mention. Thank you all for putting Quashnet School on the map!

Be sure to check out the pictures on the photos tab above.  There are many pictures from field day, field trips, and the recent chorus concert.

Thank you to all of our field day volunteers for helping make the day a success. Thank you, Mr. Morris, for organizing the day.  It certainly was action packed!

Outstanding job the by the Quashnet Chorus and our wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Boyd, at last week's concert.  Check out the videos of the performance on the photo tab.  The "rain" was soooooo cool!

Feed the shark!

Please help us take a bite out of summer hunger.

K-kids is sponsoring their final food drive of the year with a goal to stock the Mashpee food pantry with summer snacks.  Any and all donations are appreciated - the drive runs through Tuesday, June 19th. Our friendly shark is located in the front lobby of Quashnet School.

Thank you for your support!

FYI - Quashnet year-end academic recognition ceremonies take place this week. See weekly calendar for dates and times.

Looking forward to welcoming our incoming Grade 3 students on Wednesday, June 13th, for lunch @Quashnet.  See you soon!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
