February 25, 2018

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

Yes, it is a school night! I hope everyone had a nice week off to relax and rejuvenate. I am anxious to hear about all the great activities students participated in, even if it was staying home playing with friends or reading a good book.

Nothing was dull here at Quashnet.  Construction has begun!  You will notice new tiles right at the front entrance of the school.  New tiles, some temporary, are in front of all of the full length windows.  Temporary tiles are in the nurses office - waiting for the installation of a handicap bathroom.  Contractors have also moved into the locker room, where there is a mock up of the work they will be doing to the roof and windows.  The library was painted over vacation and it looks FANTASTIC! Thank you Mashpee DPW! Mrs. Avtges work to ensure Quashnet School is MCAS ready.  All systems say go!

Our first round of MCAS is only a month away.  Grade 3 students will be
tested in Reading and Grades 4-6 will participate in the English Language Arts.  MCAS  is scheduled for April 3-5. Based on our benchmark assessments, students will be ready for the expectations coming their way.  This is the second year of the Next Generation MCAS aka MCAS 2.0.  Schools will be given an accountability rating this year based on student performance on MCAS, yearly attendance rate, and participation in testing. Being in school is important every day, but please make every effort to be sure your child(ren) are in school for testing. If they are sick, make-up sessions will be scheduled.  Please note during these three days in April - all construction work will  be on hold.

A special thank you to our Social Studies Curriculum team lead by Miss Forsberg and Miss Keohane for organizing the Grade 4 Falcon Olympics.  What a fun night of friendly competition.  Sixth grade students were excellent support staff to assist with the games.  Well done everyone who competed! See pictures on the tab above.

Are you ready for a STEAM Night Quashnet style?  It's coming this THURSDAY, MARCH 1 6:00-7:30 PM.  Teachers have planned fabulous activities to challenge student thinking, encourage creativity, and build interest. Come enjoy the fun!

A couple other reminders for this week -
Monday be on the lookout for the family survey.
Wednesday there is a PTO Meeting at 6:00 PM in the Quashnet library.
Thursday is STEAM Night.
Friday is Wampanoag Day for Grade 5.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
