February 5, 2017

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

Not that anyone ever doubted that Mashpee was part of Patriots' Nation, but boy oh boy, did Quashnet students and staff take their Patriot pride to a new level on Friday! Everywhere you looked there was red, white, and blue - Brady, Edelman, and, Gronk, old school logos and new.  Talk about a TEAM - way to go Quashnet!  Be sure to look at all the great pictures on the picture tab.

 Let's GO Patriots!

Happenings this week  include:

1)  Monday, February 6, 2017 - EARLY RELEASE DAY for students.  11:30 AM Dismissal
Please be sure to send in a note for any change in dismissal plans.

2)  We welcome our Chinese exchange students on Tuesday at 5:00 PM!  Host families will be meeting their exchange student for the first time.  We are looking forward to welcoming our guest into Quashnet classrooms beginning Wednesday, 2/8/17.  They will be shadowing their host sibling(s) for several days.

3)  STEAM NIGHT (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) - is this THURSDAY, February 9th starting at 6:00 PM.  Teachers have put together a wide array of hands-on activities to delight, entertain, and challenge.  Be apart of the fun!  We will also be welcoming Matthew and Brandy Jackson from Mobile Makerspace.  They will have STEM materials and kits to purchase.  A portion of all sales is returned to our school to purchase supplies for our own makerspace lab.  Be sure to try out their circuit kits, robotics, and coding tools, plus more! They will be in the front lobby. Thank you Mrs. Avtges and Mrs. Giuggio for organizing this GREAT event!

4)  Sunday, February 12th from 9:00 AM -1:00 PM, the Quashnet School Unified Sports Special Olympic Basketball Team will be competing at Tabor Academy in a tournament.  Our first game is at 10:00 AM.  Go Mashpee FALCONS

Once again Quashnet School is participating in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program.  There are only two weeks left for students to get their reading logs to teachers.  They are due by Friday, February 17th.  To participate: read for fun for a total of 6 hour or 360 minutes.  It includes books, magazine, newspapers, etc. Turn in the completed log and earn a free ticket to Six Flags theme park.  Tickets will be distributed at the end of the school year.

Service Dog Update:  Can you believe over 8,000 right choice tickets were donated by students in just the first week of collecting? AMAZING! To date we have received about $6,200 in donations. There are two key fundraising events coming up in March. Mark your calendars!
Thursday, March 16th: Dining for a Cause at Mashpee 99
Sunday, March 19th:  Quashnet Family Skating event at Gallo Ice Arena
Thank you for supporting this worthwhile cause.

Enjoy the big game today!

Even though Monday is
half day for students,
it is an important academic day.

See you in the morning!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
