December 4, 2016

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Tomorrow, Monday, December 5th is our last half day of 2016! It seems like it has been a while since our last full week, but please know teacher professional days are very important in the work we do.  We are very grateful for this time to review student data, curriculum, instruction, and student growth. Student dismissal is at 11:30 AM.  If there are any changes in your child's dismissal instructions, please send in a detailed note explaining the changes.

How is your gingerbread structure coming?
The Quashnet School Gingerbread Village display begins next Monday, December 12th. The structures will be on display in the front lobby for one week.

Families will be able to enjoy the display on Friday, December 16th during the Family spaghetti dinner and cookie decorating event here at Quashnet.  Please come join the fun!  A photographer will be here from Lifetouch to take digital family photos.  Please RSVP by Tuesday, December 6th so we can plan accordingly.

Have you ever done something for someone just because it was a good thing to do? Do you remember that great feeling to know you could impact the life of someone else in a positive way? Well, that is exactly the opportunity we want to give students -  a chance to recognize their own power to positively impact others. The Service Dog Initiative at the Quashnet School is a win win plan!  As students earn right choice tickets, they can go to the school store OR they can make another good choice and donate their tickets to purchase a service dog for a soldier in need. We are working to secure local sponsors to match the right choice tickets with a dollar value.  Thank you to the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office for their sponsorship of $2,500.  Thank you to Barnstable County Sheriff's Department, Mashpee Patrolman's Fund and local businesses that have also stepped up to support our students as they work to pay their right choice recognition forward.  If your know of a company looking to make a tax deductible donation or if you would like to sponsor our students, please call Jane Emery at 508-539-1550 x4100. Every penny counts as we need to raise $14,000.  We are pleased to have partnered with Heroes in Transition on this initiative. Be on the lookout for more information coming from the Quashnet School Student Council, as they are taking the leadership role with this program.

Thank you Falmouth Elks Lodge #2380 who generously supplied our third grade students with personal dictionaries.  We are so lucky to have such fabulous community partners that support our students along their educational journey!

PTO Update - Falcon Bucks is underway!  So far four lucky winners have been contacted.  Winners will be posted on both the QS PTO and Quashnet School Facebook pages.  The top ticket seller was Alexis Baptiste(gr.3), second place Anna Carroll(gr.6), and third place was Talia DiMaggio(gr.4). Thank you to all who participated in the Falcon Bucks fundraiser -all of students will benefit from your support!  On Thursday, December 8th, there is a Holiday Shopping and Dining Event at Mashpee Commons to benefit Quashnet PTO.  The flyer below lists participating businesses.
