October 23, 2016

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Thank you to Chris Santos for volunteering his time last week to share important safety tips on Internet Safety.  Tech tip of the week: If you are not aware of phonesheriff.com - it is a very useful parenting tool to monitor phone activity.  It is never too early to monitor and educate your child on Internet safety.

On Monday, October 24th, all students at QS will be participating in a school-wide assembly called Light the WayLight the Way is a community initiative started by Dino, of Dino's Pizza, which provides reflective gear to all students in grades 3-8 to increase their visibility on our dark roads. Each student will be given a backpack with assorted reflective gear. Thank you Dino - what a great time with Halloween around the corner and the days getting shorter.

The last informational night regarding a change in school start time is this week at MMHS starting at 6:00 PM.  This meeting is open to all those interested regardless of which school their children attend. This potential change will be for the 2017-18 school year, next year! This link will lead you to the blog, brochure, and research on the topic, School Start Time. Your voice matters and your point of view is important to the committee which will be making a recommendation to the school committee next month. Ultimately this decision will be decided by a school committee vote - most likely in January.

CONGRATULATIONS to our new Student Council officers!
President Jocelyn Cohen
Vice President Maya Brainson
Secretary Gabriela Santos
Treasurer Will Chapman

This was an extremely difficult vote this year.  All candidates wrote and delivered exceptional speeches.  They shared their points of view and their campaigns we very positive.
Thank you all for your efforts to make your school the best it can be!

Friday night was a great family night here at QS.  Thank you PTO for transforming the cafe into a fabulous black light dance party!  There were over 300 people in attendance!  This school spirit and fun brings our community together.
It sure is GREAT TO BE IN MASHPEE!

FYI - QS Book Fair starts this Friday and will go through next week. Family breakfasts will be served Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday next week - mark your calendars!
If you need for coupons for the Falcon Bucks fundraiser, they are available in the front office or through PTO.

There are two events in November available to support parents in the prevention of substance abuse and in raising healthy families. Guiding Good Choices is right here at MMHS starting in November and My Choice Matters is the First Annual Parent Summit in Hyannis. Dinner will be served at Guiding Good Choices, please register ahead of time. Any questions please call either myself or our outstanding guidance counselor, Mrs. McCue.

Have a wonderful and productive week ahead!
Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
