September 11, 2016

Greetings Quashnet School Families and Staff,

It is hard to believe that the September 11 attacks on our country were fifteen years ago.  At that time, we would say "United We Stand" now consider "United We Serve." In honor of those to be remembered, September 11 was declared a National Day of Service.  What can you do to help someone else....bring a donation to the food pantry, visit an elderly neighbor, mow a lawn....even taking the time to have a conversation can make a huge difference.  On this 15th anniversary, it is worth a discussion...what can we do for someone else or someone in need?

It is wonderful to report that the first week of school went very well! The halls are alive with the sound of  students!!  There is nothing better.  We had our new School Resource Officer Calhoun on hand to greet students, and Ready Freddy the Falcon was stopping into classrooms to check on who was following the Falcon Five. Student's in Mrs. Stroshine's class were so awesome they all got a high five!

Mrs. McKay's 4th Graders
With the exception of a very crowded parking lot during the election on November 8th, all went well here at Quashnet. Thank you for all the support Mashpee Police Department and DPW.

For all of our new families, if your child was supported in their previous school by an IEP or 504 Plan, please contact our Team Chairperson, Christine Brown at 508-539-1550 x4193 or at cbrown@mpspk12.org to ensure all records have been transferred from your child's previous school. Thank you for your assistance.

We cordially invite all parents and guardians this Wednesday, September 14th, from 6:00-7:30 PM to the
Quashnet School OPEN HOUSE!
It is a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher, hear about classroom expectations, grading, homework, technology, meet the new staff, connect with PTO, Food Services, a representative from the School Start Time Committee, and more.
Consider bringing a bag with you as we have some great books for you to bring home,
and the PTO is going to have one of their amazing bake sales.

We meet in the gym at 6:00 PM, teachers will not be in their classrooms until after our community meeting. Special subject teacher will also be here, so be sure to learn about  Library, STEM, Music, World Languages, Art, and PE.
Looking forward to seeing you then!

We are SO FORTUNATE at Quashnet School to have 1:1 Chromebook use for our students.  Every homeroom teacher has a cart with an individual Chromebook that is assigned to each student.  In order to use the Chromebooks, students must have a signed Internet Use Agreement form returned to school.  This was sent home   last week. We also collect a maintenance fee of $12 per student for the use of the Chromebook.  This is a nonrefundable fee applied to maintaining the devices.  A letter will be sent home with students on Monday, 9/12/16, explaining this district policy. Mrs. Suzy Brooks, one of our outstanding Associate Directors of Instructional Technology will have a table outside the office during Open House if you have any questions or would like to pay the maintenance fee at that time.

Are you ready for the second annual...

This is an OUTSTANDING family event -  yet another reason why
IT'S GREAT TO BE IN MASHPEE!
 THANK YOU PTO!!

FYI- Thursday, September 15th is International Dot Day.

Be sure to wear something with dots.  International Dot Day encourages people of all ages to harness their creativity. The inspiration behind the event is the children's book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. In this engaging, inspiring tale, Reynolds (illustrator of the Judy Moody series) demonstrates the power of a little encouragement. Students have been creating their own unique dot with Mrs. Richards in art class.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead -
