December 6, 2015

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

Tomorrow, Monday, December 7, 2015 is an EARLY RELEASE DAY for students.  Please be sure to send a note to school should your child(ren) have any change in dismissal plans.  Dismissal for students is at 11:30 AM.

Saturday was quite a day for Mashpee!

Congratulations to our Mashpee Falcons on an outstanding Superbowl win at Gillette Stadium.

It sure takes a village - the support was phenomenal and Mashpee Pride was certainly evident.  Great job to all the players and coaches on such an impressive win! Check out some of the pics from the game on the photo tab above.

Thursday night was a real treat at Quashnet School!  Students performed some favorite tunes under the guidance of Mrs. Hill and Miss Sherman.  Excellent effort by all of our musicians - thank you for your willingness to share your talents.

I hope families of a fourth, fifth, or sixth graders received their PARCC assessment scores this week. Should you have any questions at all please be sure to call or stop in and Mrs. Avtges or I will be happy to review the scores with you.  As noted on the report sent home, the following website is very helpful in understanding your child(ren)'s scores:  http://understandthescore.org   Students did take two assessments in both ELA and Mathematics last year. The scores received represent a combined score in each subject.

We will be administering the PARCC assessment to all Quashnet students in May for ELA and Mathematics.  Fifth grade will also be tested in Science, Technology and Engineering using MCAS. If at all possible PLEASE  AVOID family trips in MAY.  It will be a busy testing month. Exact dates will be sent home this week.

We are STILL LOOKING FOR BASKETBALL players...

Have you ever participated in the Quashnet School Gingerbread Village?  Well, it's time to start baking and building. Gingerbread structures should be brought to Quashnet School on Monday, December 14th.  On Thursday, December 17th, there is a choral concert and then cookie decorating in the cafe. The more the merrier!  Can't wait to see the sugary creativity this year!

Don't forget the Mashpee Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 12th at 5:00 in the Mashpee Commons.  Cheer on the Quashnet float!

A great big thank you to all who supported the Patriot raffle basket.  We had a winner who purchased tickets at Stop and Shop.  Enjoy the football game!  All proceeds went to the Falcon Family fund to help support Quashnet families for Christmas and beyond.  Excellent job Mrs. Emery, Mrs. Johnson, and the Quashnet School Student Council!

Have a wonderful week everyone-
Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
