It’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years--Abraham Lincoln

GROWTH MINDSET: WITH TIME AND EFFORT I CAN IMPROVE!
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.  Never stop challenging yourself.

I need to be seen.  I need to be heard.  I need to be respected.  I need to be safe.  I need to belong.  When all of my basic needs are met. . . then. . . I’m ready to learn.             (Anonymous)
Dear Quashnet School Community,

We are very proud of our fifth and sixth grade boys and girls soccer teams.  Each team played two outstanding games last week.  Those who attended their games witnessed tremendous teamwork, focus, and positivity.
Thank you to our PTO for providing our third graders with a "Welcome to Quashnet" ice cream social after school last Wednesday.  All who attended had a great time and left with "happy tummies."
Thank you to Food Services Director Gus Stickley for preparing a delicious breakfast last Friday morning.  This is an annual "welcome" event for students and their families who are new to Quashnet.  This year we had 22 students join our school (17 families).  We are so happy that these students are now a part of our school community.  Thank you also to the members of our National Elementary Honor Society who wrote each new student a letter.
This week marks the start of our "Project Life" field trips.  These trips provide hands-on learning experiences that support classroom learning for our fourth, fifth, and sixth graders.  Sixth graders will be exploring the salt marsh; fifth graders will explore the pond, and fourth graders will explore the woodlands.  These annual learning experiences have been developed through our partnership with the Green Briar Nature Center in Sandwich.
On Monday we will be conducting our first Code Red Drill.  In advance of the drill, teachers will review expectations and protocols with their students.  Additional Code Red drills will take place regularly throughout the school year--at different times of the day and in different settings.  If you happen to call or come to the school during the drill, no one will be answering the phone or the door.  Our drills usually take about 15 minutes.  The School Resource Officer will be present during the drill, and the police and fire departments are notified in advance of every drill.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me.
Each student's 2014 MCAS results were mailed home last Thursday.  If you have any questions related to your child's report, please contact me.  Below is our 2014 performance--Proficient or Above at each grade level--as compared to the state.

Please note that in all four grades, the percentage of students scoring proficient or above in mathematics is the highest ever achieved.   We are very proud of our hard-working students and our teachers.  We also thank our families for their support.

REMINDERS
We do not interrupt classroom teaching and learning with calls from the office to tell a student that something they forgot has been delivered to school.  Students may pick up any items delivered by a parent during his/her lunch time--all items will be on a cart in the cafeteria.  (This relates to homework, instruments, lunches, water bottles, clothing, etc.)

Also, please make sure you put your child's first and last name, grade, and teacher's name on all notes that come to school from home.

Finally, please send in your family photo for display in our front cases.

With Gratitude,
Patty DeBoer
