GROWTH MINDSET: WITH TIME AND EFFORT I CAN IMPROVE!
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.  Never stop challenging yourself.

DEAR QUASHNET SCHOOL COMMUNITY,
It is with excitement and sadness that we say good-bye to our current sixth graders.  Most of them have been at the Quashnet School for the past four years.  We have watched their physical, academic, emotional, and social transformations.  For some students, the growth has come easily; for others, it has been more challenging.  Throughout their Quashnet School journey, our school community has celebrated their triumphs and offered support and guidance during times of struggle.  We are very proud of the young people who are “graduating” from the Quashnet School, and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors.  Our advice to each of them is to be a good listener, care about and value others, choose your friends wisely, be tolerant, be mindful, and have a positive impact on the world.  You only have to look to our “Character Words of the Week” to find guidance for future success.
The Quashnet School Family would like to recognize and celebrate a special member of our staff who is retiring this year:  Mrs. Sheila Carotenuto.  Mrs. "C" has positively impacted our students, their families, and her colleagues. She has shown passion for her work, has spent many years helping, educating, and guiding the children of Mashpee, and has been a highly valued member of our school community.  We wish her a retirement filled with good health, relaxation, and many opportunities to create happy memories.  Congratulations and best wishes.  We are very grateful to Mrs. Carotenuto for her service to the Mashpee Public Schools.  She will be greatly missed.
Thank you to our P.E. teacher Mr. Morris for planning and executing a wonderful Field Day for our students.  We had a beautiful day last Monday, and the event was outstanding.  Thank you to the many parent helpers without whom this event would not be possible.  Congratulations to Devon Hughes and Jordan Hue--this year's first place winners in the Field Day annual Sixth Grade Run.
Thank you to Mrs. Hill and Ms. Sherman for planning and executing our annual Talent Show--a definite highlight in our school year.  Last Tuesday night's performances were outstanding.  Thank you also to the many staff members who volunteered their time to support this event.
Congratulations to the following students who participated in the Junior Solar Sprint Competition on June 14th.  The solar car created by sixth graders Addison Weiner, Donovan Foster, and Cody Dowler won first place in the speed category.  The solar car created by fifth graders Rowan Higgins, Gabe Palhais, and Ben Johnson took second place in the speed category.  Zach Taylor and Gavin Emerson created a solar car that took second place in the technical merit category.  Jillian Sylvia and Betsy O'Reilly were unable to attend the race.  Their car was displayed and admired by everyone.
Sixth grader Addison Weiner is pictured above building his solar car.
Gabe Palhais, Rowan Higgins, and Ben Johnson are working on their solar car.
Principal for a Day--Sixth Grader C.J. Cliff and Assistant Principal for a Day--Third Grader Maya Brainson (both in center) are pictured here with their special guests.  All rode to and from school in a limousine last Thursday.

SUMMER READING/MATH PACKETS HAVE ALMOST BEEN FULLY DISTRIBUTED.  WE STILL HAVE A FEW CLASSROOMS TO VISIT.  STUDENTS RECEIVE A COPY OF THE ASSIGNED READING BOOK WITH THEIR PACKET.  ALL STUDENTS MUST READ TWO BOOKS--THE ASSIGNED BOOK AND A FREE-CHOICE BOOK.  READING EVERY DAY AND PRACTICING MATH SKILLS EVERY DAY IS THE EXPECTATION.  ALL PAGES IN THE PACKET, INCLUDING OUR LETTER TO FAMILIES, ARE POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE.

Don't forget to click on the "SY13-14 Pictures" tab at the top of this blog to view all the pictures taken last week.

With Gratitude,
