It’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years--Abraham Lincoln

GROWTH MINDSET: WITH TIME AND EFFORT I CAN IMPROVE!
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.  Never stop challenging yourself.

DEAR QUASHNET SCHOOL COMMUNITY,
It is hard to believe that this week will be our last full week of SY13-14.  Each day of each school year is so important.  Gaining knowledge and skills happens in small steps consistently taken.  This year's 180-day journey is almost complete.  It is a great time to engage in a self-assessment.  What were my accomplishments?  What challenges did I meet?  What areas should I focus upon moving forward?  Did my work reflect my best effort?  Did I make those around me feel good about themselves?  Do I have a growth mindset?
There are many projects scheduled to be completed this summer at the Quashnet School.  Our parking lot and back loop road are being reconfigured to improve traffic flow, safety, and to provide more parking.  New bleachers are being installed in the gymnasium.  Ten folding walls between classrooms are being removed and replaced with sound-proof permanent walls.  The HVAC system in every classroom is being replaced.  Finally, a large shade shelter is being installed in the playground area next to the gym.  This area will have tables for learning and playing.  We are very grateful to the Town of Mashpee for making these improvements to our school.  (Note:  The Quashnet School will not be accessible for most of the summer.  Please contact the main office if you need anything).
Summer Reading/Math Packets will be distributed to students this week together with their assigned reading book.
REMINDER:  FIELD DAY HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY, JUNE 16TH.
Sixth Grader Hannah Shields sang the National Anthem at the ceremony promoting Jack Phelan to the position of Deputy Fire Chief for the Mashpee Fire Department.  Mr. Phelan is also a member of the Quashnet School Council.
Congratulations to the winners of the Quashnet School Talent Show Cover Art contest.  Third grader Stella Stecei is pictured above with the winning cover she designed for this year's program.  Stella will receive a one-week campership at Camp Farley.  Fifth grader Betsy O'Reilly's cover design won second place.  Betsy will receive a $75 gift certificate to the Cotuit Center for the Arts.  There were close to 100 participants in this year's contest!  Art is alive here at the Quashnet School.
Our fifth and sixth graders gave outstanding performances at their year-end concerts held last Thursday.
Our fourth graders enjoyed their field trip to the Heritage Gardens in Sandwich.  We highly recommend that all families visit this wonderful place.
Sixth grader Addison Weiner is just one of the many superheroes who visited our school last Wednesday.  Our students and staff display superhero qualities every single day!
Construction of our water-bottle greenhouse is well underway.
