It’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years--Abraham Lincoln

GROWTH MINDSET: WITH TIME AND EFFORT I CAN IMPROVE!
Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.  Never stop challenging yourself.
Dear Quashnet School Community,
We strongly encourage all of our parents to be actively involved in your child’s “tech” world.  Your child’s technology-enhanced communication that is not face-to-face needs close adult monitoring.  Our students are not yet at the maturity level needed for sound independent decision-making or to process troubling content on their own.  They must have guidance.  It is not an issue about trust, so don’t let your child use that as leverage.  A child not willing to share recent communications is a warning sign.  All parents need to be proactive in protecting their child from harmful words and images that can easily enter their world with just the click of a button.  You wouldn’t leave the front door of your home wide open at all times of the day and expect that your child could handle whatever came in on his/her own.  Don’t let your child’s technology “front door” remain wide open either.  Good parenting requires active and respectful shadowing and guidance. Connecting with other parents as well as with us is also very important.  Our children are our most valuable assets—priceless and worthy of the highest standard of care and protection.

CAREER DAY AT QUASHNET
Friday, May 30, 2014
Career Day is a very important and valued annual event at the Quashnet School, an event that can only happen with the support of our families and our community.  It is a wonderful opportunity to expose our students to various occupations and the skills and education required to perform them successfully.  We are asking all parents to consider spending either the whole day or part of the day on May 30th sharing your work with our students.  A letter and registration form was already sent home.  If you can join us, please complete the form and return it to school.  If you need a form or have questions, please contact Cheryl MacIntire (508-539-1550, ext. 4188 or cmacintire@mashpee.k12.ma.us ).

2014 Quashnet School Yearbook

3RD ANNUAL QUASHNET SCHOOL TRIATHLON:  JUNE 6, 2014
This event will be a celebration of three key areas of student achievement and growth:  Physical Education, English/Language Arts, and Mathematics.  This event is being planned by the Quashnet PTO and the Quashnet School staff.  Pledges will be collected and prizes will be awarded.  More information will be sent home soon.

With the changing of the seasons we think it is important that we refresh our understanding of the Quashnet School Dress Code—per our Parent/Student Handbook.  Clothing that we see for sale in many stores would not be considered appropriate for school.
Dress Code
The Mashpee Public Schools expect students to maintain an appearance that does not violate reasonable standards and is conducive to cleanliness, safety, good health, and appropriate conduct.  Clothing worn to school should reflect a positive self-image and should not be disruptive or distracting to the educational process.  The principal or designee is the final authority on dress code violations.
The following is not permitted during the school day:
  • Wearing low-cut tops/dresses, spaghetti-strap tops/dresses
  • Having exposed undergarments, midsections, backs, cleavage, or deliberately bare shoulders
  • Wearing short shorts or short skirts/dresses (mid-thigh measurement)
  • Wearing hats and hoods on the head
  • Wearing drooping or saggy pants
  • Wearing clothing/accessories that express inappropriate language and images that are vulgar or profane (or which might be interpreted as such) or that advocate racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice, gang affiliation, violence, or the use of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol.
  • Wearing pajamas or pajama-like clothing
  • Wearing sunglasses
  •  Bare feet—Appropriate footwear should be worn with recess and physical education in mind.
  • Leggings/Jeggings may be worn under dresses, skirts, sweaters, or shorts that conform to the dress code.
The administration reserves the right, if necessary, to add other items to this list, especially any and all items which negatively affect the safety and security of our students and staff.
