Dear Quashnet School Community,

Student Recognition Awards for Term 2 will be given out during each grade's lunch.  Parents are welcome to join their child for lunch.  The schedule for each day is as follows:
Tuesday, April 8:  A's and B's
Wednesday, April 9:  Perfect Attendance; All A's
Thursday, April 10:  Rising Star; Effort
Friday, April 11:  Special Subject Awards; "Good Egg"

We still have room for more students to participate in our GEO CAPE COD CLUB--a geography club that will be meeting every Tuesday after school, beginning this Tuesday, April 8th.  Please email me if you would like your child to join this group. 

SEEDS OF CHANGE GRANT
     The Quashnet School has applied for a grant from the Seeds of Change organization to help us grow our learning garden.  Please help us to win one of the grants by visiting this link and voting ONCE PER DAY from now until April 21www.seedsofchangegrant.com  Our garden name is Quashnet School Garden.  Thank you to our resident farmer/teacher, Mrs. Whiddon, for pursuing this grant. 

DRESS and PERSONAL APPEARANCE Expectations
     With the arrival of Spring and warmer weather it is time to remind everyone of our student dress and personal appearance expectations as described in our 2013-2014 Parent/Student Handbook.  Below is text from our handbook:

The Mashpee Public Schools expect students to maintain an appearance that does not violate reasonable standards and is conducive to cleanliness, safety, good health, and appropriate conduct.  Clothing worn to school should reflect a positive self-image and should not be disruptive or distracting to the educational process.  The principal or designee is the final authority on dress code violations.
 
The following is not permitted during the school day:
a.       Wearing low-cut tops/dresses, spaghetti-strap tops/dresses
b.       Having exposed undergarments, midsections, backs, cleavage, or deliberately bare shoulders
c.       Wearing short shorts or short skirts/dresses (mid-thigh measurement)
d.       Wearing hats and hoods on the head
e.       Wearing drooping or saggy pants
f.        Wearing clothing/accessories that express inappropriate language and images that are vulgar or profane (or which might be interpreted as such) or that advocate racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice, gang affiliation, violence, or the use of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol.
g.       Wearing pajamas or pajama-like clothing
h.       Wearing sunglasses
i.         Bare feet—Appropriate footwear should be worn with recess and physical education in mind.
Leggings/Jeggings may be worn under dresses, skirts, sweaters, or shorts that conform to the dress code.
The administration reserves the right, if necessary, to add other items to this list, especially any and all items which negatively affect the safety and security of our students and staff.

2014 QUASHNET SPELLING BEE (Update)
All participants have received their packet of words—same packet for each student.  Even though the packet is divided by grade-level, all participants are expected to learn ALL words in the packetOur Spelling Bee will take place on Wednesday, April 30th.  Grade-level preliminary rounds will take place at 5:30 PM, and the final will take place at 6:30 PM. If any student would still like to participate, please pick up a permission slip from the main office.  Once returned, the student will receive the word packet.  Last year’s Spelling Bee was a wonderful event.
