International Week (April 29-May 3)

From April 29th to May 2nd, we will be celebrating cultural diversity and global awareness with International Week! Our student council has taken the lead in putting together several activities for students.

Here's what students can look forward to during International Week:

1. Food from Different Countries: Throughout the week, the cafeteria will be offering dishes representing various cultures. It's a fantastic opportunity for our students to taste and learn about cuisines from around the world.

2. Hanging Country Flags: You'll notice a display of flags in the hallway between the cafeteria and gymnasium. These flags symbolize the rich diversity of our school community, showcasing the many nationalities and backgrounds that make Quashnet School unique.

3. Morning Announcements: Each morning during International Week, we will share facts and insights about different countries. It's a wonderful way to start the day with a sense of global curiosity and appreciation.

4. Invitation to Participate: We invite all students to actively participate in our International Week project, which will be shared by the student council. Students will be invited to make postcards and/or posters from various countries that will displayed throughout the school.

Reunification Drill

This week, on Thursday, April 25, the Quashnet School will be practicing a reunification drill in the morning. Practicing reunification for a school is moving to a physical site, that is not the school, in the event of an emergency and the school needs to be evacuated. The reunification site for Quashnet is the Boys and Girls Club. The drill will consist of the entire school walking up to the Boys and Girls Club with their classrooms. Once at the club, I will address the school and we will walk back to school and resume the day as normal.

The purpose of the drill is so that all students are familiar with how to get to the Boys and Girls Club, and to figure out the best ways to utilize the space if the entire school would need to be there.

Ice Cream Sundae Bingo - Upcoming Evening School Event

On May 2, the Quashnet School is having its first-ever Ice Cream Sundae Bingo event. Admittedly, the details of this event have changed a few times this year, as we try to nail down something fun, that we can do each year in the spring to welcome families into our building.

This event is meant to be fun and is free for families and students. All are welcome and encouraged to come. There will be bingo for everyone to play, and many prizes given out. Also, everyone who comes will have the opportunity to make their own Ice Cream Sundae! This week, students will bring home flyers with an RSVP form that should be returned to school before the end of this week, Friday, April 26. The flyer can also be viewed below with more details.

An Update on 6th Graders Transitioning to MMHS

There are many events and a lot of work that goes into supporting the current sixth-grade students' transition to Mashpee Middle High School next year. So far this year, sixth-grade classes have already been visited by the MMHS principal and the middle school guidance department. Many sixth-grade students and families also attended the program of studies night at MMHS.

This week, the MMHS Assistant Principal for grades 7,8,9 is coming to school to meet with sixth-grade teachers individually to prepare to meet every student's academic, social, and emotional needs next year in seventh grade. Although students are not directly involved in this activity, it is a good reminder that this is a big transition for students and we are doing everything we can to support them. There will be more events between now and the end of the year. In June, the sixth grade will be visiting MMHS.

Traffic this Week May Impact Buses

1. There will be a detour on Route 151 this week. Eastbound traffic (heading toward Rotary) will be detoured starting 4/18 through 4/26 between Old Barnstable Road and Frank E. Hicks Drive/Job's Fishing Road.  The detour is Old Barnstable Road (past the elementary schools) to Great Neck Rd North.  Westbound traffic will stay on Route 151. 

2. On Monday, 4/29, one direction of traffic will be detoured between Cotuit Road and Route 28. 

3. On Tuesday, 4/30, and Wednesday, 5/1, one direction of traffic will be detoured between Great Neck Road North and the Sandwich Town Line.
