Time Corrections for Concerts

On the blog last week, I realized I put the wrong start times for our winter concerts. All three concerts start at 6:00pm. The correct schedule is as follows:

January 23 (6:00-7:00pm): Grade 6 Evening Band/Chorus/Orchestra Concert

January 24 (6:00-7:00pm): Grade 5 Evening Band/Chorus/Orchestra Concert

January 25 (6:30-7:00pm): Grade 4 Evening Band/Chorus/Orchestra Concert

Fourth Grade Field Trip to Cotuit Center for the Arts

Later this month, fourth-grade classes will be going on Field trips to the Cotuit Center for the Arts. Permission slips will come with your children this week from classroom teachers. Please fill them out and return them this week. The schedule for the trips is as follows:

January 22: Mrs. Perrault's Class & Mrs. Johnson's Class

January 24: Mrs. Lepore's Class

January 29: Mr. Bedard's Class & Mrs. Johnson's Class

Hat & Hood Fundraiser

The student council will be putting on a hat & hood fundraiser on the next three upcoming Fridays (January 12,19, and 26) to raise money for the fifth and sixth-grade social they put on at the beginning of February.  To raise funds, all students can bring $1 to school on those days and donate it to the Student Council. By donating $1 students are then given a wristband and allowed to wear a hat or hood in school for the entire school day.

Generally, these are fun days for students and it is a simple way for the Student Council to raise money they then will use on their social for things such as decorations and snacks for that evening. The beauty of a fundraiser like this is that it is run by the students and they earn the money they need to make their social fun.

I'll go over this with students in lunches this week. The rules are:

  1. Hat and hoods cannot cover any part of the student’s face.

  2. Hat and hoods cannot come down below a student’s eyebrows.

  3. All hats and hoods have to be school-appropriate.

Massachusetts Partnership for Youth

Mass Partnership for Youth (MPY) is an organization that provides professional development for teachers. The Mashpee Public Schools are members along with many other districts in the state. Recently, MPY put out some very helpful, free, videos/courses that help guide parents through supporting their children with things such as anxiety and inspiring school success. If you are interested, the link is included below.

Covid Tests Available in the Nurses Office

The federal Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education, will be providing us with a supply of free 30-minute at-home rapid antigen tests for COVID-19.  Parents/guardians who would like a test kit for home use may have their child(ren) come to their respective health offices to pick up a sealed box containing 2 tests beginning Tuesday 1/9/24. These current test kits expire 9/30/24.

Staff members may also pick up a free test kit from their respective health offices.  As has been our practice, families are expected to report positive COVID-19 test results with their respective child’s school attendance email as soon as possible.  Staff are expected to report a positive COVID-19 test result to District Nurse Coordinator, Stacey Schakel @ sschakel@mpspk12.org

No Place for Hate Kickoff Tomorrow

On Monday, January 8, 2024, we will be dedicating the morning to introducing No Place for Hate to the students and having them participate in the first of three activities we will do this year. The activity they will do in classes is titled, "The Tree of Respect". As a class, students and teachers will participate in classroom activities focused on what respect and kindness mean to them.

Additionally, that day, grade levels will meet briefly in the cafeteria to learn about the No Place for Hate program and its place this year at Quashnet.

On that day students will also have the opportunity to commit to the No Place for Hate pledge, which is included below. Students will be asked to demonstrate their commitment to the pledge by designing and creating a paper feather all about themselves. The feathers of all students and staff will be displayed in the front hallway of the building in the form of a Falcon with the pledge included. Students can opt out of this part of the day, committing to the pledge, if I hear from their parent or guardian between now and January 8, 2024. To opt your child out of committing to the pledge, please simply email me at eswitzer@mpspk12.org stating you do not want your child to make a feather.

It’s GREAT to be in MASHPEE,

A Connected Community.
