Half Day of School for Students on Tuesday

Tuesday this week, October 24, 2023, is a half day for students. It is the second of our two days designated for parent-teacher conferences. It was great to see so many parents and guardians in the building meeting with teachers this past Thursday, and we looked forward to seeing the rest of you this Tuesday. Dismissal on Tuesday is at 12:30 p.m. Please plan accordingly.

Picture Retake Day Friday

Friday this week, October 27, 2023 is school picture retake day for any student who would like to have their school pictures retaken.

Lunch Bunches with Mr. Darius Starting this Week

We are really excited to welcome back Mr. Darius, from the Education Department of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe this week to begin lunch bunches with our Native Students. This is a fantastic program that we are continuing from last year that many students enjoy.

November is Native American Heritage Month

November is Native American Heritage Month, and the Quashnet school will be part of a district-wide schedule of events. Each week on the blog I'll be sharing what events are taking place for the upcoming week, throughout the month of November, as it pertains to our learning and recognition of Native American Heritage Month.

Free Seating in the Cafe

This past week, students in grades 4,5 & 6, did a trial run of Free Seating in the cafeteria, which allows students to choose to sit with friends and peers throughout the entire grade. The fourth and fifth graders did an excellent job with the expectations and behavior. They will begin free seating full-time every day starting Monday.

The sixth grade as a whole needs to improve following all the expectations, so we have a few things to work on, and we will hopefully start free seating full-time on Thursday of this week.

The third-grade students will also begin free seating this week, and it is a brand new experience for them to sit with friends beyond their homeroom class.

The start of free seating at school brings up various feelings for students. Some students are very excited to sit with friends outside their homeroom class, while for other students this may bring up feelings of anxiety and nerves. I strongly encourage all guardians to talk to their children about their social choices in the cafeteria, at recess, and throughout school.

Socializing is a tremendously important part of the school experience. Please remember that we have many school staff who are available to support students socially.

No Costumes for Halloween

Out of respect for all beliefs and cultures, we DO NOT wear costumes to school on Halloween. Students are welcome to wear Orange and Black on the day of Halloween if they would like.

Bus Evacuation Drills on Thursday

This week, on Thursday, October 26, 2023 students who ride the bus will be practicing bus evacuation drills upon arriving at school on the bus.
