June 5, 2023
Dear Quashnet School Community,
Monday, June 5, is an early release day. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:30 PM. If there are alternative dismissal plans please send in a note with your child or email qsattendance@mpspk12.org.
The days are winding down for school year 2022-2023. We have exactly two weeks to go. This Monday and the last day of school on June 16th are early released days. Please plan for a 12:30 PM dismissal. An important reminder for the last two weeks...
There is still learning to do, field trips to attend, field days, recognition awards, and time to spend with students' classroom community and friends.
Thank you, Mrs. Hill, Mr. Felix, and Mrs. Crehan for leading Quashnet Grades 5 & 6 musicians in their concerts last week. Be sure to look at the photos and videos on the table above.
Over the last few blog posts, I have included pictures from Grade 6 classes who attended the court field trip. This trip is a perfect example of students learning about being an Engaged Citizen and being Effective Communicators and Collaborators which are Portrait of a Graduate competencies. Students are selected/volunteer for roles within the class and they learn about the court process step-by-step. Following a script for this play, two students are assigned to "shoplift" from Stop & Shop, one student is a loss prevention officer, and other students watch the "theft" occur on security cameras in the store. The student theft prevention officer then calls Mashpee PD and a student officer (along with our SRO) "arrest" the students and take them to the Police Department. From there, students see the whole court process take shape. Not to worry parents, there are two students assigned as parents. Our student judge usually shows no mercy. But the defense attorneys and prosecutors have their work cut out for them to both defend and prosecute the shoplifters.
This trip is filled with lifelong learning opportunities. We appreciate Stop & Shop's partnership and the support from Mashpee PD, our SROs, and Barnstable Juvenile Court. A highlight of the trip is lunch at Dino's! Dino is a true friend of Mashpee Public Schools and his strong sense of community service is shared with students at that time as they debrief the experience.
