October 10, 2021

Dear Quashnet School Community,

I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend.  Holidays give us a nice break, but it is important to remember why we have a special day off.  Monday, October 11, is Indigenous Peoples Day. It is a day to recognize the rich culture of all Indigenous Peoples across our nation as well as the continued contributions and influence of the Wampanoag Tribal Nation.

As a school community, we will be raising the American, Massachusetts, and the Wampanoag flags on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.  Please see the schedule of events below. Our Native American students are encouraged to wear their regalia.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Grade 6 2021-2022 Quashnet School Student Council members. Back row: Jesse Dean, Liam Vidal, Lila Jacobson, Colton Baker, Jacob Morgado, Jonathan Fairbanks, Joshua Gaeta, Madison Wright, Kira Duval, and Lilianna Packett. Front row: Esme Milde, Kassady Holland, James Morris, Emma Duvall, Bridget McLane, Savanna Pitts, Perrin Jones, Anna Jensen.  Not pictured: Alaina Ferrer and Tyler Schilling. The student council members are student leaders who work on special projects, bring interesting events to our school, and are Falcon Five leaders. I look forward to seeing their influence grow in our school community this year!

How do we get better at what we do?  We collect data, analyze it, make a plan, monitor progress, and adjust practice as needed. That is what teachers and staff do on a Professional Day. On Friday, October 8th, teacher teams were able to review the 2021 MCAS results by grade level and used STAR benchmark data to evaluate our curriculum and instructional strategies. Although a day off can be a disruption to the school routine, it is an important part of curriculum evaluation and lesson planning. These days are valued and focused on improving student outcomes.

1 Day Lacrosse Clinic for Grades 4-9
Saturday, October 23, 2021

Two Mashpee High School seniors, Trey Peters and Kayden Eaton have organized a lacrosse clinic for students in grades 4-9. This opportunity was initiated by MMHS graduate Caesar Hendricks, Class of 2021.

Trey and Kayden have picked up where Caesar left off and are working with USA Lacrosse who are providing a two-hour instructional clinic at MMHS. The first 50 participants will receive a lacrosse stick and a t-shirt FREE of charge.

For any questions, please contact priley@mpspk12.org.

We are very excited for two members of the Quashnet School staff.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bedard on their newest arrival last week. Welcome to baby Brooks!

We are very happy for the bride-to-be, Ms. Beckner. We wish her and her fiance many many happy years together!

Enjoy the long weekend with
family and friends.

Respectfully,
Principal O'Brien
