January 17, 2021

Dear Quashnet School Community,

How about some feel-good news? Check out this home video from two of our Quashnet students and their mom.  Well done Shannah and Justin - thanks for your willingness to share!  Just click: It's a Hard Knock Life- Hybrid Learning EditionEnjoy!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a great reminder about  how important it is to be KIND and RESPECTFUL of ALL People and Kindness Week coming up.

Dr. King's message of equality, social justice, and civil rights for ALL AMERICANS is a dream we are still working on and trying to achieve.

Enjoy the following book with your child(ren) Martin's Big Words, The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. written by Doreen Rappaport and shared on the Teacher Reads YouTube Channel.

K-Kids and the Student Council will be working on Kindness Week events. We have something special coming - a challenge?  Oh yay!  Get ready for some fun!  Our plans are for school AND for home....stay tuned!!!! FYI - Kindness week begins on Monday, January 25, 2021.

We need your help! During an in-person week, it is important that students come to school.  These in-person weeks allow teachers an opportunity to connect and support students, check their work, and prepare students for their remote week. Even though your child is able to sign on remotely, they will not have the material they need necessarily to be successful in the day's work. Students who participate on a 100% remote basis are provided materials in advance.
The remote option is a planned learning model - not intended as a daily decision.  If a student is scheduled to be in school - PLEASE make every effort to be IN SCHOOL.

We appreciate your communication if a student is going to be absent, late or dismissed.  Thank you for using qsattendance@mpspk12.org for all attendance notifications.

Regardless of political ideology, this coming Wednesday, January 20, 2021, is a historic day for our country.  Not only will a new President of the United States be inaugurated, but the first woman will also be sworn in as Vice-President of the United States. As a country, we have celebrated this peaceful transfer of power since 1789. The following link has a lot of interesting facts about this process Architect of the Capitol. Do you know the answers to these trivia questions?  Enjoy some of these fun facts with your child(ren)-

1. Who was the first former president to attend his son's inauguration?

2. Which president walked from the Capitol to the White House?

3. Who was the first unelected vice-president to assume the presidency?

4. Which inauguration was the first to be live-streamed on the internet?

5. Who had the longest inaugural address (10, 000 words)?

6. Who had the shortest inaugural address (135 words)?

AS A REMINDER--PLEASE DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL (STUDENTS AND STAFF) IF YOU OR ANY MEMBER OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19, IS AWAITING COVID TEST RESULTS, OR HAS COVID-19 SYMPTOMS.
