November 15, 2020

Dear Quashnet School Community,

As we enter this last week before our Thanksgiving break, it is a great opportunity to reflect on what we are grateful for.  I am grateful for our amazing, smart, caring, and creative Quashnet students. I am grateful for an extremely dedicated staff who care deeply about student success.  I am grateful for our collective effort to maintain a safe and healthy school environment.  I am grateful for our family partnerships to best support our young people. I am grateful that we have a community that values and supports our school.  I am grateful for a tireless leadership team. I am grateful to be a part of MPS. I am extremely grateful for my family and friends. 💙

Wishing you all a wonderful upcoming week off. There will be NO school for students from November 23-27. Hopefully, everyone will have an opportunity to unplug from technology! Note: I will be unplugging too - NO blog on Sunday, November 22. Please follow all travel advisories and quarantine requirements if you do travel or have larger gatherings.  If you have specific health-related questions, please contact our district nurse coordinator, Stacey Schakel at sschakel@mpspk12.org or Quashnet's Nurse Terri at trichards@mpspk12.org or (508)539-1555

Thank you for sending in flu shot verification notices.  All students MUST have a flu shot before Dec. 31, 2020, per the Department of Education.

Rock Your Mocs

RYM is a national event, growing bigger each year, which celebrates Native American heritage. Last Friday, some of our Wampanoag students in the Falcon cohort and Grade 3 students wore their regalia and shared interesting facts about their culture.  We encourage the same from the Mashpee cohort and Grade 3 students to participate tomorrow, November 16. All week, we will be learning about the influence of selected Wampanoag elders and celebrating the Wampanoag culture.

A REMINDER:

Thank you to our busy Quashnet School PTO for their ongoing work even in our COVID world! Put a book in your child's hand and they can go anywhere and do anything!  Please share the link with family members.  A book is always a GREAT gift! This is the last week to participate in the PTO virtual book fair.

Have FUN and particpate in the NEW version of
Quashnet School's Gingerbread Village!

As with all events in school and out, changes have had to occur. One holiday favorite at Quashnet School is the Gingerbread Village event.  Unfortunately, we cannot have an annual pasta dinner that goes along with this event, but those creative structures can still be made and shared.  Thank you to Consuelo Carroll and Mashpee Commons, for arranging a location to show off your family's creative side.

Click HERE for more information on the Gingerbread Village.

CLUBs are open for registration. Currently, there are two engaging clubs for Quashnet students.

Ms. Manning is facilitating the K-Kids, a division of Kiwanis International, a community-based community service group.  The K-Kids are school leaders who work for others in the school environment or the greater community. Contact Ms. Manning at smanning@mpspk12.org for more information.

Coding for Girls is a great way to empower girls and introduce them to the world of coding.  Ms. Ream is ready to go and lead this group into a world of STEM.  Contact cream@mpspk12.org for more information.

An Update from Stop and Shop A+ Reward Program

There is still time to register your Stop & Shop card for the Quashnet School.  Tell your family and friends to to participate. You do not need to be in Mashpee to select our school.  Anyone who uses a Stop & Shop card at any location can participate.
Register now! If you have questions about this program, ask Jane Emery in the main office, jemery@mpspk12.org. https://stopandshop.com/pages/a-plus-rewards

An important notice from Superintendent DeBoer:

Parents/Guardians:  It is imperative that you update the data listed in PowerSchool for each of your children.  It is a SAFETY issue!  We need your current telephone number and email address to ensure that we can communicate with you should your child be identified as a close contact or become ill or injured while at school.  An email from “registration@mpspk12.org” was sent out in early November containing the information needed to accomplish this task.  If you need it to be sent to you again, please contact Sean Moroney (smoroney@mpspk12.org) or Christine Fisher (cfisher@mpspk12.org).

If you need support with PowerSchool, please contact the main office at Quashnet School and we will help you with this process. Just call 508-539-1550. Updated contact information is critical. We all thank you for your help with this.
