April 19, 2020

Dear Quashnet School Community,

Tomorrow, April 20, 2020, is Patriot's Day. Even though we will be working through the school vacation week, Mashpee Public Schools is observing this holiday. Teachers and school staff will be available to support students and families from Tuesday through Friday this week.  Enjoy the long weekend!
Even though Monday is a holiday, the Meals To-Go program will be open for Monday's service as usual.

If you are participating in the school lunch and breakfast program, please come to Quashnet School on Monday, April 20, between 11am and 1 pm.  Just drive around behind the school to the cafeteria door, and we will bring your bag(s) out to you.

In an effort to streamline technology issues, please use the following link to request tech support for Chromebooks.  This will help get your questions answered more efficiently   https://forms.gle/hMvbksVcUUnAztkx9  This link is also posted on the MPS website and on the Mashpee At-Home Learning page for your convenience.

Things to Know About Your Child's QS
Grade-Level Google Classroom

1. All assignments are posted Friday to Friday.

2. "Late" assignments are accepted.
3. The "Grade" refers to engagement only.
4. Due dates are necessary to keep the classroom assignments organized in chronological order.
5. Complete 1 special subject activity per day, except PE which is daily.
5. If you have a unique situation or a challenge, please communicate with your child(ren)'s teacher.

We certainly understand that it is hard to be both parent and teacher.  We are here to support students and families during this challenging time. The goal is to provide material that will keep students current with their learning and build on concepts they have been taught. These are uncharted waters for all of us and together we will continue to learn, grow, and adjust as needed to provide the best education for our children.

To confirm, Term 2 Report Cards were sent to parents/guardians on Monday, April 13, 2020, to the email address listed in PowerSchool.  If you did not receive your child's report card, please check your spam folder or send an email to mobrien@mpspk12.org.  Please continue to always update your contact information with the school as important information will be communicated electronically.

Zoom apparently has been around before - check out this great video shared by Mrs. McKay, which may bring back some memories for some of you! WGBH Zoom Video 1972

Although the new Zoom is far from perfect and we all would prefer to be in school, it certainly has its advantages.  It is great to be able to see each other and stay connected on some level. When students have participated with teachers on Zoom, you might have heard the disclaimer staff has shared with classes. I have included a copy of the disclaimer for you as parents/guardians. Basically, it means that school rules and the Falcon Five apply even virtually.  As reinforced in the disclaimer, feel free to contact me with any concerns.

As we continue physical distancing, I hope you all are staying well.  Look for the positives and opportunities to make sense of this historic time in our lives as we spend so much time at home.

This photo was shared with me from a friend in Virginia - thought it was clever!

Wishing you all good health,

Principal O'Brien
