April 12, 2020

Happy Easter Quashnet School Community,

It certainly is not a typical holiday, but I hope everyone had a nice Easter and that you were able to enjoy the bright sunshine and hopefully some time with family and friends at least virtually!

Last week ended with some important school news
  1. QS Term 2 Report Cards will be emailed as a PDF to parents/guardians on Monday, April 13, 2020.
  2. Special Education Progress Reports will be mailed during this coming week.
  3. Mashpee Schools will work through 4 days of April vacation - virtual at-home learning will be in session.
  4. We will be observing the Patriots Day holiday with no virtual school on Monday, April 20, 2020.
  5. The last day of the 2019-2020 school year is on June 18, 2020, a full school day.
  6. The MCAS requirement has been waived for the 2019-2020 school year.
If you or someone you know is not receiving the link to the blog each week or other emails from the school,  please encourage them to check their spam folder. As changes in the school-closure period occur or other important notices come up, they are sent out primarily through email.

I hope the first week of your child(ren) engaging in their Grade-Level Google Classroom went well.  It certainly is an adjustment period for students, families, teachers, and all involved. Based on the feedback I received, Monday was the most challenging day. I appreciate the feedback that has come my way and I hope you have reached out to teachers and staff with questions, concerns, and feedback. It is through this dialogue that we can all do our best to support our learners and make adjustments as we go.

For clarification, all assignments posted on the Google Classroom are coded with a 0, 1, or 2.  This is not the typical grading system, it is a tracking system to help us know the engagement in topics by individual students and grade level.  When we return to school, teachers and staff will be better able to see areas in the curriculum, topics, and skills, that may need greater review than others. Please know that Mashpee Schools are following the recommendation from the state that all virtual assignments for students should be viewed as credit or no credit.  Engagement and ongoing learning is the goal to emphasize.

Enjoy this great video created by Mrs. Richards, our art teacher, which nicely illustrates some of this week's at-home learning.
Yes, there is still time to participate in Mashpee's Virtual Spirit Week!  Here is Virtual Spirit Week #4 - send your pictures, tweet them out, and stay connected!

Keep on learning everyone.  We are all in this together and we will all move forward together.  Stay well and hang in there!

Respectfully,
Principal O'Brien
