Dear Quashnet School Community,

WE are ready for some football!

GO PATS!

Be sure to look at the great photos from last week.  Friday was a "super" day at Quashnet School! 😊

Did you hear about the Energy Carnival last Wednesday?  Quashnet students all participated in a variety of hands-on activities in the gym.  MMHS teacher, Mrs. Hough, brought her students to Quashnet to teach our kids about all forms of energy, robotics, and more. We appreciate this fabulous collaboration with MMHS and Cape Light Compact.  Learning made fun!

Billy and Keiki
You are probably wondering if you’re seeing double, but there really are two dogs in this picture. Billy, wearing his green working vest, and Keiki, seen here, are taking a short break from their work at Quashnet. Although they look a lot alike, they each have two very different jobs. As you all know, Keiki is a trained therapy dog that provides emotional support throughout the entire school. She is always ready to comfort those who need it, and be petted by everyone she comes in contact with. Billy, is a trained service dog who works with Miss Lemire, our social work intern this year. Miss Lemire has Muscular Dystrophy and uses a wheelchair full-time. Billy’s job is to help her pick up dropped items, push automatic door buttons, hit elevator buttons, open/close doors with a rope, and turn on/off lights. Billy spent two years of intensive training to be ready for service. Unlike Keiki, Billy has to stay focused on Miss Lemire at all times, and can’t be distracted while working.

To help students and staff better understand the differences between our furry friends, Miss Lemire has volunteered to visit classrooms with Billy. During these visits, she has been explaining the importance of service dogs, the differences between them and therapy dogs, and the rules about approaching service dogs. She has also encouraged open discussions with the students so that they can ask questions about her disability and differences. Being a former student of KCC many years ago, she has also shared her own personal experiences of being in our school system.

We are extremely fortunate and pleased to have Miss Lemire and Billy join the Quashnet team this year.

This week is National School Counselors Week

A very special thank you to Mrs. McCue, Mrs. Morrison, and Mr. Withington for ALL you do EVERYDAY to help and support students, staff, and families. You do make a world of difference - our school counselors ARE THE BEST!

We are so fortunate to have Intern Lemire and Gosnold counselor Ms. Doolittle a part of the team as well.

With sincere appreciation for ALL you do to make our school a better place!

Come to Quashnet School this Friday, February 8th @ 6:00 PM to cheer on the Quashnet School parents and staff as they compete against KCC to take back the Falcon Trophy.  Come join the fun!

Wear your blue and white
Show your FALCON PRIDE!

Have a super night everyone, be safe and have fun. To our students who stay up to watch the game, even though we have an early release day on Monday, it is an important day of learning. Be to school on time and ready to learn.
It's a Falcon Five trait!

GO PATRIOTS!  GO QUASHNET!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien, Principal
