Dear Quashnet School Community,
Yes, this Friday will be Patriots' Friday at Quashnet School! Wear our team colors or jerseys. Let's celebrate the fun of the Super Bowl together. What better way to participate than by students reading and earning touchdowns and field goals. Mrs. Pons has designed a SUPER Bowl Reading Challenge for Quashnet students. Let's see which class wins the Super Bowl Challenge!
*Forms were sent home last week - a copy is attached to your Sunday email.
Friday night at the Wampanoag Tribal Government Center there was an Education Open House. It was a wonderful event and one of our amazing Quashnet School teachers who retired in 2013 was honored for her service. Mrs. Marlene Perry was a highly respected teacher at Quashnet School for 20 years. She continues to support Quashnet students today with her help in planning Wampanoag Day. Congratulations Mrs. Perry, this recognition is well deserved!
The Department of Education also wants to hear about all aMAzing teachers. If your child/family has had an amazing experience with an educator, you can share it on this link: aMAzing Teachers. Let's put Mashpee on the map!
Thank you K-Kids, Mrs. McKay, Mrs. Rastallis, and the PTO for bringing SO MANY smiles to the faces of so many last week. I received a couple "gratitude letters" and I know many others did too. These simple notes of thanks showed kindness throughout our building. It was like seeing a beautiful rainbow :-) Tony Memmel's concert was enjoyed by all - there are a couple videos on the photo tab above. Keep paying that kindness forward!
Mr. O'Connor's classes have had an interesting challenge this week. This lovely quilt was found in an old desk. The linen squares have been signed by former governors from 41 states. A small number of governors included their state name but many of the signatures didn't and were very difficult to read, as signatures often are. Through deductive reasoning and research, all 41 have now been identified and the quilt was dated from the year 2000-2001. It has been determined that the quilt was generated from a writing project by Mrs. McBrien's class when she was a Grade 5 teacher in 2000. Learning opportunities are all around us!
The big basketball game is coming up soon on Friday, February 8th @ 6:00 PM. KCC VS Quashnet! Let's bring that Falcon Trophy home!
The following is a message from Heather Lakatos, "We are still short female players!! We need 2-3 minimum for KCC and 2-3 min for Quashnet or else we will have to play one co-ed game. Please ask friends and family if they are interested in playing! No experience needed! This is a FUN event!" Contact heatherlakatos@msn.com for questions or to sign up!
I was over-optimistic last Sunday when I shared that the problem with the septic smell at Quashnet was corrected. DPW continues to search for the problem(s) and make repairs to old cracked stink pipes. This weekend, they continued their work to fix the problem. It has been a challenge as the pipes in question are buried within cinder block walls. Mashpee Fire Department has continued to test the air quality for any toxins. The Board of Health has also been involved with the problem. I am told this is strictly a nuisance smell and that it is!
Social Emotional Learning - SEL
The following is a quick reference for the five
SEL competencies.
Donations are still being accepted for a bicycle raffle to support a fourth grader and their family who will soon be undergoing surgery in Boston.
Any and all donations are helpful and appreciated. Student names will be entered into a drawing to win this great bike. Sergeant Assad took it for a spin and said it is a beauty!
Wishing you all a SUPER week ahead!
Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien, Principal
