December 2, 2018
Dear Quashnet School Community,
Monday, December 3rd, is another half-day of school due to Parent/Teacher conferences. Student dismissal is at 11:30 AM. As always, if there are any special dismissal plans, please be sure to send in a note with your child.
Thank you to the parents and guardians that filled out the three question survey last Thursday night. If you are coming in tomorrow, please take a minute to answer three important questions from the Quashnet. 1. A glow - comment on something that is working well for your child/family. 2. A grow - share an area we need to work on. 3. An idea - do you have an idea that you would like to share. Look for the boxes around the halls to submit your answers. Your input is appreciated as we strive to always improve.
If you haven't registered for a conference, please contact the main office @ 508-539-1550 and we will check the availability of your child's teacher for Monday. Home/School connections are extremely important to your child's success in school. You can also use this link to register today: Parent Teacher Conference Sign up.

We hope you can join us for our annual past supper night on Thursday, December 13th. Enjoy a delicious pasta supper, cookie decorating for children, take advantage of a complimentary family photo by Lifetouch photographers, and enjoy visiting the Gingerbread Village in the front lobby. Paper RSVP forms went home last week - looking forward to another great Quashnet night!
Last Wednesday night was the QS PTO meeting. Due to fundraising efforts and support they have received, $1,000 was appropriated to offset the cost for fifth grade to go the Museum of Science in Boston this January. Approximately $4,600 was spent on providing books to students and classrooms during the book fair. WOW! Thank you, PTO and all who participate to support the PTO. These funds do go directly to students and enhance the learning environment for all. December is also an exciting month with daily drawings for the Falcon Bucks. Lucky winners will be called and their names will be posted on the PTO Facebook page. Good luck!
Construction Update: It has been a while since I gave the last update on construction, but hopefully you have noticed the progress around the school. Fences near the playground area have been removed, and construction trailers have pulled out. The grounds are being groomed and the remaining punch list items are being addressed. We are waiting on window blinds, but they should be installed soon. Currently, we are about 98.5% complete! Overall the Quashnet project has come in under budget and on time! The work is expected to be completely done by the end of this month. We are planning a community open house on January 9th @ 6:00 PM to share the improvements. This project couldn't have been done without strong community support. Looking forward to 100%!
Social Emotional Learning, SEL - We are very excited to welcome Dr. Nadja Reilly to Quashnet School this Wednesday. Dr. Reilly has authored Anxiety and Depression in the Classroom which "is a teacher's guide to fostering self-regulation in students." Our goal is to review and improve our responses and interventions in supporting students who experience SEL challenges. Dr. Reilly is the Associate Director of the Freedman Center for Child and Family Development at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, and an instructor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. SEL supports stronger academic outcomes and student success. Yes, I have to say it again...It is GREAT to be in Mashpee!
Notice for Grade 6 Floor Hockey Players - It is wonderful to see your enthusiasm to participate in floor hockey. Please note- this activity starts at 7:30 AM every Friday. Doors will not open until 7:20 AM. No one should arrive at school before that time as there is NO supervision. I appreciate your cooperation. Have you started your sugary candy structure yet?
