Dear Quashnet School Community,

What a great first week of school! It was wonderful to see old friends and have an opportunity to meet new ones. Everyone seems to be settling in and developing their new classroom routines. The focus has been on community building in classrooms and following the Falcon Five in all areas of Quashnet. It is wonderful to be back in business! Enjoy the photos from the week on the photo tab above.

After school clubs are ready to go! Please click the link for the google form to sign up:  Session 1 Club Registration. We are so fortunate to be able to offer such a variety of clubs to our students. Club confirmations will be sent home with students by Friday, September 21st confirming participation along with the session dates.  Registration will close next Sunday, September 16th. Should you have any difficulty registering online or you do not have Internet access, please call the Quashnet office at 508-539-1550 and we will be happy to assist. FYI - a paper copy of the Flag Football registration will be sent home to all Grade 5 and Grade 6 students tomorrow, 9/10/18.  The intramural sports program runs on a different schedule than the school clubs.

Calling all parents, guardians, and caregivers - this is the club for you! We are so pleased to once again offer the Botvin LifeSkills Training program - a series of 4 evening discussions at Quashnet School in October for parents, guardians, and caregivers. Participation in all four sessions is recommended, but not required. This is a fabulous way to meet other families, discuss parenting successes and challenges, as well as strengthening our Quashnet/Mashpee Community.  Babysitting is available to children and dinner will be served for all.  Complete details are listed on the google form including dates and times.  Please check it out!  This is time well spent and an investment in your family.  We are so grateful to the Mashpee Kiwanis for funding this excellent program. Morning drop-off:  This is a reminder for anyone driving their child(ren) to school in the morning.  The safest way to do this is to go through the "runway" - students get out of the car the length of the front sidewalk and walk into school.  Parents should not get out of the car - it is a live drop-off.  By doing this, everyone gets through the line quicker.  If the first car in line pulls all the way to the front of the line to the sign, 10 cars can fit at once. When you park and your child has to cross the line of traffic, it slows the line for everyone and increases a safety concern.  If you do need to park and walk in, only cross the line of traffic at the crosswalk.   Please note: the "runway" is intended for a single line of traffic - no passing please! If you have child safety locks set, we are happy to assist and open the car door for you. I appreciate your cooperation in keeping everyone safe.

Last Thursday, the buses were running very late to school due to an accident near Route 130. Students being driven that day were also delayed from the traffic the accident caused. As a result of this traffic situation and bus delays, no one was marked late to school. Students who have perfect attendance at Quashnet School are recognized each term. That includes not being tardy or being dismissed early.  Please know that we take these unexpected situations into consideration.  Being in school every day and on time is critical - attendance was great last week - let's keep it up!  Thank you :-)

Quashnet School Open House is Tuesday, September 11th.  Please join us for a brief community meeting in the gym starting at 6:00 PM.  Following brief introductions, important information, and highlights, teachers will be in the classrooms to meet you and discuss goals and expectations for the year. There will be several tables set-up in the front lobby area - be sure to check them out.  We will have maps available so you will be able to find your child's homeroom but also so you can find all the special subject classrooms. Special subject teachers will be prepared to share their learning expectations as well - be sure to stop in and meet them - they are important in your child's day and school year.

While you are in school Tuesday, I invite you to add a positive message on the temporary construction wall in the front hall.  Students and staff have been having a great time decorating this new temporary addition to Quashnet.  After the front windows are complete, the same wall will be relocated to the cafeteria - so the messages will be around for a while! Have fun -

Last but not least...you will receive a VERY IMPORTANT EMAIL this week.  It will contain a code to log into PowerSchool and check your child(ren)'s information that is in our database.  Please verify ALL information from address, phone numbers, emails, allergies, medications, emergency contacts, walking field trip permissions, photo permissions, etc. This needs to be completed for EACH child individually. Everyone needs to "re-register" their child(ren)'s information - even new students who recently registered their children. This process has replaced the forms you needed to sign in the beginning of the year.  PLEASE VERIFY THIS INFORMATION ASAP.  No student will be able to attend a field trip without this process being done. Having up-to-date information is a safety issue for all students.  In the event of an emergency, it is the information in PowerSchool that we use to contact you. I appreciate your support in handling this promptly.

Friday evening starting at 5:00 PM is the PTO Welcome Back BBQ.  Come to the field between KCC and QS and have some family fun!

Thank you QS and KCC PTO for all your hard working in planning this awesome event!

I look forward to seeing you all Tuesday night at Open House and again Friday at the BBQ!

Respectfully,

Mrs. O'Brien
