December 3, 2017

Greetings Quashnet School Community,

Congratulations to Blue Nation, Mashpee Falcons, on an amazing Superbowl win yesterday at Gillette Stadium.
Check out the before and after pictures!
Friday at Quashnet.

Awesome game and GREAT MASHPEE PRIDE!

Saturday at Gillette!

So many WONDERFUL reasons why
it is GREAT to be in Mashpee!

We hope you will be able to participate in several activities coming up where quality family time is the focus.  On Saturday, December 9th, the Quashnet School chorus will be marching in the Mashpee Christmas Parade.  I hope you will be able to come out and cheer them on!

Have you started a gingerbread structure yet? Please share your family's sugary creation with the Quashnet community by displaying it in school lobby during the week of December 11-15 as part of the Gingerbread Village

RSVPs are being collected for the pasta supper on Thursday, December 14th.  This is a fun night to have a family dinner here at school, view the gingerbread village, cookie decorating, and have a family photo taken by Lifetouch photographers.  There is a suggested donation of $5.00 per family.  Come one come all - we just need a head count! If you need a new flyer, please call the main office and we are happy to help (508) 539-1550.

Calling all Grade 6 students and families!  This Tuesday, December 5th, you have been invited to attend the Mashpee Middle-High School Program of Studies Night. This is the first of several transitional nights for your sixth grader and you! I highly suggest that you try to attend this important night.  The following is a description of the evening from Superintendent DeBoer:
All are welcome to join us for the Mashpee Middle-High School Program of Studies Night on Tuesday, December 5th, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.  From 5:00 – 6:00 PM (in the cafeteria) visitors can enjoy artwork created by our very talented student-artists as well as listen to beautiful music sung by our amazing chorus members and played by our talented band members. Baked goods and cider will be available for purchase.  From 6:00 – 8:00 PM parents and friends can explore and learn about all the course offerings available in each department at MMHS.  Our teachers are very passionate about their work and are excited to share why it’s great to be in Mashpee. We find that this event is important for parents of current sixth through eleventh graders.  For our current sixth graders and their parents, it is a great opportunity to explore the building, meet the staff, and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available to a student who chooses to attend Mashpee Middle-High School.

Speaking of MMHS - it was GREAT to have some of the football players and cheerleaders visit Quashnet School on Friday. The sixth graders and fourth graders cheered on the team and wished them well on their quest to #3peat!  We sure are proud of ALL of our Falcons - scholars, athletes, musicians, artists and more!

NEEDED:  Half Gallon Containers
Recycle your empty half gallon milk or juice containers at Quashnet School.
Mrs. Whiddon is in need of approximately 70 half gallon cartons for STEM class.
Just  rinse them out and send them in.
Grade 4 students will be putting them to good use!

The Quashnet School Student Council has organized their first social of the year to be held on Wednesday, December 6 from 2:45 - 4:00 PM.  Socials are for Grade 5 & 6 students only.  Permission slips are required,  and students will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian by 4:00 PM.  If a student is unable to be picked up, they will be able to take the late bus at 3:30 PM.  Any student going home with a friend, must have a note from their parent/guardian.

Reminder! Monday, 12/4/17, is another early release day with student dismissal at 11:30 AM.  This is the final day for scheduled parent/teacher conferences. If you do not have a conference, please call the office at 508-539-1550 and we will assist you.  Ongoing home/school communication is a significant factor in student success.

Thank you to a wonderful team of Quashnet School Elementary Honor Society students who are volunteering during both conference days to help families navigate the halls of Quashnet and support the Falcon Family Fund by selling raffle tickets for the Patriots basket.  Time is valuable and thank you for sharing yours!

We so appreciate everyone who participated in the PTO Falcon Bucks fundraiser.  I wish you all luck in the drawings! Congratulations to the first three winners-

Are you ready for some basketball?  It is that time of year when the QS and KCC PTOs begin looking for players for the annual parent/teacher basketball game on February 9, 2018.  Come on Quashnet, we need that trophy back where it belongs! Parents, if you are interested in playing please contact Heather Lakatos at heatherlakatos@msn.com. There will be four practice sessions after the first of the year.

Let's have some fun and play some basketball!

Be someone's champion this week!

Respectfully,
Mrs. O'Brien
