Solar Eclipse on April 8 and Eye Safety

The much anticipated solar eclipse is tomorrow, April 8, 2024. Quashnet students will have the opportunity to view the Solar Eclipse here at school. All classes will go outside together to watch part of the Solar Eclipse.

Mashpee is in the location to see over 90% of the sun covered by the moon. We have Solar Eclipse glasses to provide to all students and staff and we will be going outside for approximately 15 minutes as a whole school to view the eclipse. Before going outside, all students will participate in a lesson in class to learn about the eclipse and go over safety protocols for wearing the glasses. Nobody is permitted to look at the eclipse (moon covering the sun) without their glasses on their face, covering their eyes.

Eye safety is a concern if students take off their glasses while looking at the eclipse. Please speak to your children about the expectation of keeping their glasses on their faces while outside during the eclipse for the entire time, so this can be a fun educational experience for everyone. This is a rare learning opportunity that we want our students to have. If you are concerned about your child participating, you may opt out of the activity, by emailing me directly at eswitzer@mpspk12.org.

Sign Up for Intramural Volley - Grades 5 & 6

For three weeks following the April break, the volleyball coach from Mashpee Middle High School will be visiting the Quashnet School on Tuesdays and Thursdays to run intramural volleyball for fifth and sixth-grade students. This is a fun opportunity and it runs after school at the club's normal time (3:35-4:20) so students who participate can take the late bus. It takes place in the gym after school. Click here and fill out this form to sign your child up for intramural volleyball.

Career Day Upcoming - Please Share Your Expertise with Students!

Quashnet Office Closed over April Break

Please be aware that the Quashnet School office will be closed over April break,  April 15-19, so do not plan to conduct business with the school that week.

Upcoming Safety Drills

This past Friday, all students heard from our school resource officer, Officer Hennessy about ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) and the how to keep yourself and others safe in the event of a school intruder. This coming Monday, we are going to have our first of three safety drills between now and the end of the school year.

For this drill students will practice either evacuating with their class or locking down in the classroom. Mashpee Police and Fire will be onsite to help with the drill.

Night to Shine & No Place for Hate Photos

This past week we had No Place for Hate Activity #2, and an incredible performance put on by many students in our Night to Shine talent show. There are many pictures from both events in the blog photos. I have put the link here for easy access: Click here to view blog photos.
